Even if that's true with Trudeau, and not stuff taken out of context or whatever to sound worse than it is, the fact remains that Trudeau has not, to my knowledge, engaged in any particularly despotic actions or advocated despotic policies, but has shown that he is willing to work within the existing political system. Unlike Trumpolini, who has routinely advocated violence against his opponents and engaged in corrupt conflicts of interest to benefit his business and family, while trying to suppress criticism and investigation within the government and slandering his opponents.Tribble wrote:Trudeau openly admires people like Castro and China's "basic dictatorship". If you are going to go that route, then it must be acknowledged the biggest threat to Canada sovereignty by far is its current PM.The Romulan Republic wrote:NATO arguably ought to be serving as a counter to Vladimir Putin's Russia, but it is likely to be incapable of doing so since the most powerful NATO member is now well on its way to being a Russian client state.Elheru Aran wrote:
It strikes me that there should be some way for Canada to go 'hey, guys, turns out we can't afford to give as much as we're supposed to, can we redraw the terms of this contract just a bit...' and rearrange their involvement in NATO to a point where they can actually meet their obligations.
To be frank, I don't know why Canada is still in NATO at this point-- it was created as a counter to the Soviets and the Warsaw Pact, which isn't... really a thing anymore. And there's the United Nations and all. It's not like Canada has much to fear, ISIS isn't about to sail an oil tanker into the port of Vancouver anytime soon or anything like that.
Also, and more to the point here, to try to equate some ill-advised comments to receiving massive illegal foreign aid in your election campaign (which Trump openly courted on television) is simply preposterous. Whatever Trudeau's views on foreign governments, can you demonstrate that he has received illegal aid from them which might make him beholden to them? Or that their is even any real evidence to think that he might have done so? Or that he has done anything which might make him a threat to Canadian sovereignty? Because otherwise, your comparison is a blatant false equivalency.
Seriously, it takes a special kind of dishonest to equate Justin Trudeau and Donald Trump in this way.
