American fascination with the families of POW, MIA, KIA, WIA

On CNN just now they were talking with the KINDERGARTEN teacher of an American soldier who was wounded, and in an Iraqi hospital or something.

What is it with the US news services and talking with their families, often talking to the families the SAME DAY they find out that their relative was killed, captured, wounded.

Public interest stories are a staple of the media all the time, and a great many people like to talk to reporters. This is just an extension of that.

Who knows my mom still has a bracelet of a classmate from High School, who still hasn't come back living or dead from Vietnam.
