The U.S. government has been lying about marijuana for over seventy years. Ever since the days of Harry Anslinger, its been one outrageous bullshit lie after strawman fallacy after red-herring after slippery-slope argument after another after another. Check out the latest Partnership For A Freedom-Free America PSAs where they state that the Dread Weed leads to pregnancy. As if they decided to remake Reefer Madness in the present day.
The anti-pot propaganda put out by the government would read like this site's entire catalogue of logical fallacies. But where any honest debate on the issue is never even allowed, little trifles like truth and logic can be cheerfully ignored.

Well, according to Bill O'Rielly ( )all of the good -high demand, high THC- weed is already coming out of Vancouver and Winnepeg anyway. Has anyone ever heard of Winnepeg Wheelchair? supposedly that shit is so strong you need a wheelchair to get around after you smoke it.

Hell, the name "marijuana" was cooked up by the government in the first place to steer people away from it. They thought that, if it sounded Mexican, people wouldn't want anything to do with it.Patrick Degan wrote:The U.S. government has been lying about marijuana for over seventy years. I just saw a commercial about how some kid was killed by a driver under the influence of marijuana. Well that's sad, but it's not marijuana that killed the kid. It was bad decision-making. If Jack Daniel is still allowed to do business after thousands of drunk-driving deaths, then I see no reason why marijuana should be restricted.

I hope so, then maybe the government can use my tax money formerly spent on anti-weed legislation on something more useful, like education, or social programs. YIPPEE!Marijuana legalization is coming. I give it 10-20 years tops.

Dear lord, half my friends are Terrorists according to the states!
Okay, now seriously.
(I might seem to go off topic, but bare with me)
It's been shown that marijauna (spelling?) is less harmful then alchol or cigarettes.
Marijauna: Short term affects include; memory and learning problems, distorted perception, thinking and problem solving drops, loss of co-ordinations. In other words, getting stoned
Long term effects: Possible cancer elevation (inconclusive research), respitory problems from long term/extended use, weakens immune system. May cause depression, anxiety and personality disorders. May cause high school students to get low grade and flunk out (DUH)
Note: In 2001, over 12 million Americans age 12 and older used marijuana at least once in the month prior to being surveyed.
(ref: http://www.nida.nih.gov/Infofax/marijuana.html)
Smoking (Tabacco products)
Short Term effects: Bad breath, odor.
Long Term effects: Cancer, numerous respitory and circulitory diseases, most of which are fatal. Also affects users taste and smelling abilities. Causes birth defects in pregnant woman
Drinking (Beer, etc)
Ref: http://www.alcohol-drug.com/neuropsych.htm
Highlights include: Smaller, less massive brains then people of same age and gendor. It's most extensive in the cortex of the frontal lobe - the location of higher cognitive faculties.
etc.
All in all, Marijauna is no worse then Cigarettes and Alchol, and in fact may not be as bad over all.
So why is it not legal in the United States, etc?
Simple
Cigarettes and Beer ARE. They don't want competition.
Face it, a Marijuana joint causes the same effects as beer (a happy, warm fuzzy feeling), quickly, and they don't smell as bad as either product.
Also, except in extremely addicted users, one joint's effects will last all day on you, in terms of not needing it. Try that with cigarettes.
(Addiction does happen with Marijuana, just it's rare)
Cig's and Beer are older and established in society.
1950's comes around, and they get competition.
So, they basically pay off the government to ban it.
Doubt it? Who do you think pays for alot of there campaigns? No campaign money if they don't ban it = lower chance of re-election.
Now then, back to the Marijuana is Terrorism..
Off course they are going to equate anything that can with the war on terror. It's there bullet-proof vest right now.
Personally I am in favour of regulated de-criminalization (what is being proposed. Not legalization, but decriminalzation, there is a HUGE difference, I'll explain that below) and perhaps even legalization if done right.
The difference between decriminalization and legalization is this
Decriminalization: You still get in trouble for having amounts over the limit, but you don't get a criminal record for small amounts, and you don't get sent to jail.
Legalization: you could sell it over the counter next to butter if you had the liscence.
Decriminalization shouldn't (no promises) cause an increase in users, but a decrease in jailed users.
I can understand why the US would be concerned. But this isn't the legalization of growing it, just owning small amounts of it would not get you into trouble. Best way to say it. Its okay to have 25 cents worth on you, but not 50 cents or more.
If the US is so upset over it, they should ask Canada, nicely, to do something about it.
And I'm not saying dicate how we pass our laws, or run our country. Last I checked, we don't have weapons of mass desctruction, so good luck on getting approval to invade the global-nice-guy.
Anyway, what I would like to see, as a gesture to the US, is an agreement reached where a Canadian caught crossing the border gets a harsh punishment. (If caught with it on the otherside of the border, they could have got it in the states, so nothing extra, that's just not fair)
I.e Arrested, dragged back to Canada and held. Tried in both countries, US gets to toss him in jail first, then we toss him in later for smuggling.
And when crossing the border, on Canada's side you have someone warn them
"if you are caught crossing the border with drugs, serve jail terms in Canada and the US"
The US concern is drugs from Canada getting into the States (reasonable) and the money going to Terrorists (unreasonable)
Reasonable: Okay, we will punish those caught trying to cross the border with drugs.
Unreasonable Counters;
Islamic Computers have been captured that run Microsoft software. Therefore Microsoft must be helping the Terrorists. Toss Bill Gates in jail
I know that sounds stupid, but so does the states right now.
What it gets down to, is do what I do with US polititians: Ignore them. Soon Jean Chrietien will be out of power, the liberals will probably lose the next election, and we might elect someone with the balls to tell the states to go soak there heads...
And if the states invade, grab the hockey sticks and teach them the real meaning of house-to-house fighting

Depends on the study and the researching group.NapoleonGH wrote:Solauren:
The respitory problems are not long term, repeated studies have shown that shortly after stopping, any respitory problems disappear
also the immune system may in fact be assisted by weed
I think it would be safe to say, that there are still a few debates over the long term affects over Marjiauna smoking, but even if they are all true (long term repitory problems develop, questionable immune system, etc) they are still less then or at most equal to the severity of alcholol and tabacco
Shit, I guess my money funds a teeorist who is paralyzed from the waist down, yet loves to grow plants and raise his kids. Shit my money pays for such terrorist activities like: helping a dsiabled man live a comfortable life, put his kids through college, keep his house and last of all, feed a poor man's family. This buying weed=funding terrorism is a load of BULLSHIT. Pardon me for following state law and using a perscription givin to me by a doctor to relieve the chronic pain I have and to help me sleep. Pardon me for not wanting to join a co-op and get arrested by the DEA even though they are abusing their power. PARDON ME FOR WANTING TO LIVE MY LIFE PAIN FREE!!!!!!
