The Constitution Thread

Post by Col. Crackpot »

this is the united states constitution. before you make stupid comments about things such as American elections, make sure you aren't spouting bullshit.

http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html

if the mods could sticky this thread i would appreicate it. Also, feel free to add links to the constitutions and legal guides to any other nation so when we discuss the politics of other nations, we can have a guide of what is and isn't the law. It will greatly aid the debating in this forum.

There's several links to sites that have the full text of the Constitution in the Political Resources sticky.

Let's not forget state legal codes and constitutions.

The Indiana Constitution

The Indiana Code
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

US state constitutions are probably a bad idea to post individually, since there are more than 4 dozen of them and it will put a lot of bulk into the thread. A single unified listing of all the state constitutions might be handy, though.

I like the My Home State of New Hampshire's constitution becuase it is the only consatitution in entire 50 US states and the 3 territories and 1 district that gives the people the right of revolution.

Its a nitpick but the state constitution does not give rights, it prohibits the state government from infringing upon them. Indeed the very text of the document demonstrates this quite clearly: "All men are born equally free and independent; therefore, all government of right originates from the people, is founded in consent, and instituted for the general good." and "All men have certain natural, essential, and inherent rights - among which are, the enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing, and protecting, property; and, in a word, of seeking and obt aining happiness. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this state on account of race, creed, color, sex or national origin."
"To those who cite the First Amendment as reason for excluding God from more and more of our institutions every day, I say: The First Amendment of the Constitution was not written to protect the people of this country from religious values; it was written to protect religious values from government tyranny." --Ronald Reagan
