Love is in the air in Baghdad

Little by little, as they passed in and out of the military checkpoint outside their office, certain journalists of the Iraqi Media Network fell in love with certain soldiers of the Third Infantry Division.

Notes were passed. Admiring phrases were translated into Arabic. And when the unit was transferred to Fallujah several weeks ago, letters were written about the pain of parting.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

It would be interesting to see if there are a significant number of Iraqi war brides coming home.

From the article:
''There were a couple [marriage] proposals here and there,'' said O'Connor, 29, who found himself acting as a conduit between his colleagues and soldiers. ''Usually it was the women proposing to the men. Not all of them were accepted.''
Emphasis mine.

That means there WERE some Iraqi war brides  . Someone should do a study of American military conflicts and the number of war brides taken.

I know my friend's grandmother came back from Italy with his grandfather. How many war brides do ya reckon came out of Iraq?

Not quite sure about it. The Iraqi families with their daughters married to an american would certainly view americans differently. However that would not solve the problems plauging the americans in Iraq.

Iraqis like most people around the world do not hate americans. It is the American goverments double standards policy that they despise. Intermarriages between Americans and Iraqis would improve the American image in Iraq but that will never convince the Iraqis that what America is doing in regions like Israel and Palestine is correct.

What is needed is a fundermental change of US forengein policy. President Bush needs to wake up and understand why 95% people around the world opposed the Iraq war. The US won the war in Iraq but permanently lost its image in the world as the source of freedom and libertly. The more wars the US take part in the more will the rest of the world grow anti American. Eventualy the ailing US economy would collapse as exports fail and the rising costs of so many wars hurt it even harder and in the end US no longer remains a superpower.

Very few if any, since the troops where mostly away from civilian areas, and only spent weeks or a few months inside Iraq. Also, far more troops are married today then ever before.
