File sharing, porn and the **AA
You know, I was thinking. The **AA likes to constantly complain that it's losing money to peer2peer filesharing services. It's reasonable to think that they'd be losing some money to it, but what about the porn industry? Porn is one of the most hotly-traded items on peer2peer networks, and we haven't heard one peep from the porn industry about losing money. It's still a multi-billion dollar business.
I think this means that people, for whatever reason, still think that pornography is worth going to the store and buying. They think it's worth the money. That's because a good porno doesn't give you just one good scene with another hour of filler shit. A $20, big-name porno will invariably give you a more consistently positive experience that a $20, big-name band CD. No matter how much Britney Spears tries, she simply can't be as good an entertainer as Jenna Jameson.
What is the solution to this? Well, CD buyers have to get their money's worth. Either lower the price of CD's or include nude shots of Britney Spears and Christina Aguillera with every disc. Since the CD's are also almost certainly filled to nowhere near capacity, an MPEG-4 clip of the two engaged in lesbian sex, possibly with Peter North, would add a lot of value to the purchase.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? Look at today's Entertainment world. The Decay hitting the RIAA is also evident in the T.V. Industry. Reality TV Shows abound, simply because they're tried and true. The cojones to make something new doesn't exist, because executives are afraid of losing money. It's a good idea in principle (because I doubt parents would let their kids buy a Britney Spears CD with Britney getting eaten out by one of the makeup girls. They'd buy it for themselves!), but in practice the RIAA'd never do it. It's too new.

I didn't say, "... a CD with Britney being eaten out by one of the makeup girls." I said, "... an MPEG-4 clip of Britney and Christina having lesbian sex." Those two things are totally different. Parents could approve of one, but not the other.

I meant the CD having the Clip on it, I should have made my point clearer. I'm sorry. But still, I doubt the parents would let their kids buy that CD, for the same reasons Marijuana is illegal.Durandal wrote:I didn't say, "... a CD with Britney being eaten out by one of the makeup girls." Porn may be silent, but they really should do something about the 40 dollars it costs to buy a new porno. Unless of course Ohio or just my own little county has a Sin Tax on the shit.
I couldn't buy Brianna Loves Jenna so I had to settle for Titz. It ain't bad at all, but I still wanted to see two blondes who might as well be twins going at it.

...This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old...ultraviolence.
The porn industry embraced the Internet and figured out how to get it work.
(Interesting thing: back when Microsoft was first experimenting with MS-MPEG4v3, a lot of porn companies invested in it, encoding lots and lots of video via the AVI wrapper. MS then announced that you would have to use Windows Media to use it ... and not long afterwards the 'leaked' MSMPEG4v3 codec came out, now known as DivX.
Or, as some people said, don't fuck with the porn industry)

I don't think they're very similar looking. They're both insanely beautiful, but in different ways. That notwithstanding, footage of those two eating each other out should be public domain.UltraViolence83 wrote:I couldn't buy Brianna Loves Jenna so I had to settle for Titz. Are you sure it was MS-MPEG4v3? MS-MPEG4v2 was very popular before v3 (Hell, people still encode with it, for some incomprehensible reason).phongn wrote:Interesting thing: back when Microsoft was first experimenting with MS-MPEG4v3, a lot of porn companies invested in it, encoding lots and lots of video via the AVI wrapper. People claim that the old games are "all about the gameplay." Usually when sitting in front of an Atari that actually physically did come from the Carter Administration.
My response to this is, "Dude. You're playing a 25-year-old game system with eight directions and ONE FREAKING BUTTON, and you're claiming that it has better gameplay than a modern game. Let's compare Adventure to Sonic Adventure. Didn't think so."

Re: File sharing, porn and the **AA
Well, most of the CDs I buy are by somewhat obscure metal bands - and in those cases, I can count on getting my money's worth since underground bands don't have to compromise in order to please the mainstream... however, if Arch Enemy starts including nude pics of Angela Gossow with every disc, I'll have absolutely nothing against it...Durandal wrote:Well, CD buyers have to get their money's worth. The reason porno isn't hurting due to P2P is because there's too much porn to be traded. That's right, there's a stopgap in place, in which pirates can't rip the stuff quick enough to throw into their Shared Folder.
Porn gets pumped out in massive quantities. All you need, really, is a few hundred bucks and a girl willing to do anything (and in this day and age, you can find those anywhere). Finding a guy is no problem. Then a shitty camera, a shitty "script" (if even that), some shitty halogen lights... well, lemme put it this way: I could make porno, if I really needed to, and earn six figures off of it inside two years. Hell, I live right in Chatsworth's backyard... the porn capital of the world.
Music? Effort needs to be put into it. A lot of effort. It needs to appeal to a general audience to make money, whereas porn needs to appeal to a specific audience (that's why even crappy porn movies can cost fifty or sixty bucks... they expect only a few thousand sales).
The point of this long post... it doesn't fly to compare music to porn. Now, a better analogy would be to compare music to movies... and when the soundtrack for a movie costs as much as the DVD for the movie, that's when you know you have a problem.

No. MSMPEG4v2 was the final version that was officially released under the AVI wrapper. MSPEG4v3 was beta-tested under AVI but released under WMA - two incompatible formats (You could not merely convert between the two).Durandal wrote:Are you sure it was MS-MPEG4v3? For awhile, people used MSMPEG4v2 merely because it was fully legal unlike the hacked DivX 3.11 codec, but times changed. Now with things like SBC, DivX 5 and Xvid, I don't see why people still use it.

Ahhhh yes. I remember now. The original hack was basically taking the binary segment out of Windows Media Player and encapsulating it in an AVI codec wrapper. A similar hack was done on the Mac side of things to get DivX playback, back before OpenDivX turned into DivX 4.phongn wrote:No. MSMPEG4v2 was the final version that was officially released under the AVI wrapper. "Underground bands", by definition, are the exception to the rule. They also rarely pull in the kind of money that gives RIAA execs collective boners.Underground bands don't care about the general audience. The music industry is a victim of it's own greed and stupidity.
I am not referreing to artist themselves. Any of them in this 'rant'. (Including Britney Spears and the rest of the bubble-gummers)
I'm talking about the multi-million dollar executives etc.
How much does it cost to burn per CD? What, $2 after equipment cost and the price of a blank? (I'm thinking mass produced numbers here.) at Most $2 even.
Everyone knows that.
So why the fuck would I pay $30 + TAX for a cd I might want 1 song off of?
Plus
They are called 2nd hand music stores.
I know people, that go to say, Wal-Mart, but 2 - 3 new cd's, take them home, copy them onto Tape (or mp3 rip them if they have a computer, or get someone to mp3 rip them) and then take them to a 2nd hand music store a few days later and trade it in for the cast.
$30 to buy cd. $1 for the blank cd or whatever the price of a tape is, 1 hour of time, and then they have the music and get $20 back
Net Price: $10 (approx)
That's the problem. Then people repeat at the 2nd hand stores.
If the music industry want to crack on on piracy of the music, they have to make it cheaper.
I happily pay the 2nd hand store prices for music. Cause that's about what they are worth.
There are radio stations the specialize in 'new', '3 month old' 'last years', 'this decade', '80's' + music. I don't need to pay $30 for the cd or tape to hear the songs, so why the fuck should I? Especially if I only want like 1 song. (i.e My girlfriend picked up a Avril Langriene cd, but only likes the one song on it.)
Thats the problem
Not the internet, economics.
Now, as for Porn, I agree, the Porn industry saw the net and was like "ALL RIGHT!"
Not every 'blonde sucks dick' video on Kazaa is the same. Hell, they could have the same file name and size and still be different.
Like someone said, a few hundred bucks in time and equipment and a girl that needs the money or is into it, and you've got yourself a porn video. Heck, I've seen professional porn videos (i.e pay download from a well done website with run-way-model quality girls) that are little more then the girl playing with herself on a bed in a hotel. Rent a hotel room for 2 days, get 10 girls and a couple of guys, and you have lots of porn to sell online.
