Toys for Iraqi children

Post by Alex Moon »

In case any of you are interested, Chief Wiggles in Iraq is having a Toy Drive. His plan is to have Soldiers ride around on bicycles handing toys out to Iraqi children.
Some no no toys:

Any guns of any kind
No violent action hereos
No violent toys
No barbie dolls or dolls skantily dressed
No toys that shoot something, no projectiles
No water guns
Lets just keep it simple, simple toys, just the basics, these kids have
nothing.
Crayons might melt, so probably not the best thing to send. It was 107 degrees in Baghdad today.
Quick update from the first comment, Colored pencils would be wonderful!

Please put any suggestions for toys in the comment area.

Some other items that are nice are pencils, pens, paper to draw and color on.

Toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, brushes, combs, etc.

Nice stuffed animals, other items.

Just use your good judgement, and if you are unsure, contact a local muslim group for help.

Lightly used items are wonderful. Please make sure they have been cleaned before sending.

Please remember, this is for kids age 0-18.

Please note, all items will be checked before handing out to insure safety.

The Chief is looking for a sponsor for bicycles for the troops to ride. We have some leads going right now. If these do not work out, we will let you know.
Here's the address if anyone wants to send anything.

Well, you really don't want anything that can be mistaken for a gun, because that is an incident waiting to happen. Kid sees some American soldiers, runs out to show them the toy that one of the other soldiers gave them, and bam, the soldiers think that the kid is trying to shoot at them and opens fire.

Also, you don't want something like a Barbie because some whackjob Islamic militant might do the kid some harm if he catches him playing with it.

Their suggestions basically make sense.

Legos.. Yeah, LEGOS will work... especially if you can actually find some that aren't meant as part of a set.

If they even make them like that anymore

I believe they still make the bucket of blocks. Or at least the large block ones for really little kids.

Heck yeah, I remember I had one of those huge buckets of the little Legos. You know, the dangerous ones that had sharp edges, hehehe.

Rubber balls.

What was that Bloom County strip...?

"Santa, couldn't you just give my little brother a rubber ball?"
"Sorry. They're all reserved for N. Ireland and (some other place I can't remember)."

I like cool looking action figures, especially the Elite Force ones, but seriously, this was the dumbest fucking thing to ever put on sale. And people are buying it. Ugh.

I only cut my finger once or twice, and then I figured out the knife thing, too. However, is it really that smart to give kids toys that they have to use a knife to pry apart? lol

nah, there is plenty of unexploded ordinance lying around. that will blow the legos apart without ever needing a dangerous knife.

Agreed, either fingernails or teeth. The name of the Big Legos, by the way, is Duplos.

Ah, yeah, what was I thinking.

"Hey, Achmed, go grab that RPG over there, I need to get this Lego apart."

"Sure thing, Omar. Wait, I have an unexploded 40mm grenade here, that should be enough."
