Talk-radio titan Rush Limbaugh is being investigated for allegedly buying thousands of addictive painkillers from a black-market drug ring.
The moralizing motormouth was turned in by his former housekeeper - who says she was Limbaugh's pill supplier for four years.
Wilma Cline, 42, says Limbaugh was hooked on the potent prescription drugs OxyContin, Lorcet and hydrocodone - and went through detox twice.
"There were times when I worried," Cline told the National Enquirer, which broke the story in an edition being published today. "All these pills are enough to kill an elephant - never mind a man."
Cline could not be reached for further comment yesterday, but her lawyer, Ed Shohat of Miami, said his client "stands behind the story."
The Daily News independently confirmed that Limbaugh is under investigation.
Heh...
Interesting if it's true.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier
Anyone listen to Howard this morning? He started listening in to Limbaugh's speech today before the National Broadcasters expoecting him to address the charge and when it became obvious he wasn't Howard began heckling him, it was pretty funny.
Is anyone surprised by this at all?

The drug causes hearing loss, which Limbaugh is experiencing. I think this seals the deal.

Interrresting...but why would he be on the things in the first place?
People generally don't start abusing painkillers until they've been hurt bad...
see Hermann Göring, who was a great guy and not a druggie until
he got wounded so bad he needed a morphine drip to stay sane,
and got addicted to the painkillers in the end.

If he was on a morphine drip, he was practically guaranteed to become an addict. Morphine is amazingly addictive, and I know one of my friends who was put on it for a major back injury was told by his doctor may well be on it for the rest of his life.

There were actually a few cases of morphine addiction among WWII medics.

Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting the story also, with reference to the Daily News story and also a CNN report that says Limbaugh was known to buy them, but was not the target of the investigation. Story at Really freakin' long URL. The Palm Beach County state attorney's office could neither confirm nor deny that Limbaugh is under investigation.

So Rush has human limits?
Surprise, surprise. Does anyone here know the name of a certain clinic, named after a certain first lady?Anybody know just how LONG and varied the list of customers is?(hint, income is the cutoff, not ideology)
Drug addiction is an equal opertunity venture. I'll bet this all started when he threw out his back, and got some pain meds. This happens a lot with overweight folk. The back part I mean. (could be a major fator in why Rush lost so much fat in the last few years.)
Once he was on this road, it only goes one way.
Those who think he said some of what he said, (with the implication that what he said was so stupid you have to be high to say it) due to his drug addiction, need to check yourselves. Last time I checked, there was no link between political affiliation, and drug addiction rate. (It would be curious to see, for sure.)
People get lots of bad ideas without drugs all the time. It could very well lower his inhibitions about saying what he REALY thinks, but not be the source of them. "Truth serum" is more likely than "conservatism in a pill."
Lots of uglyness comes out of intoxicated mouths, of ALL stipes.
Hmmmmmm.
