Heavenly Retribution?

Post by LadyTevar »

There's just something funny about the fact that the star of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of Christ" movie has twice been struck by lightning during filming. :D

I'm surprised some Christians aren't making comments about 'Signs from God'.

Frankly, if I was God, I wouldn't like the idea either. Doesn't sound like a great idea for a film anyway...

That article said that some religious leaders are worried that it will fuel anti-semetism. Erm...what? I mean, if you are going to feel anti-semetic because of the events in this movie, you are going to at least have an idea as to what happened to Jesus...

I never understood why some people believe watching the Cruxifiction will cause Anti-Semetism. Yes, the Jewish Leaders of the time are the ones calling for Jesus' death, yet why would that cause persecution against Jews?

Hell, anyone that claims his/her Anti-Semetism came from this movie was just looking for a handy excuse for their intolerance.

Because it's obviously due to the anger of ZEUS!

If I remember correctly the Catholic Church was still angry with the Jews for causing Jesus' death until fairly recently.

Ironic.

Zeus and Thor are obviously having a marksmanship contest with the cast and crew of the film.

Perhaps you should read their complaints before judging them. Among their complaints are the fact that the movie dwells excessively on imagery of bloodthirsty Jewish mobs, even going beyond scripture to do so. At one point, the Roman guards are actually reluctant to brutalize Jesus any further but the bloodthirsty Jews egg them on. This is why many Jewish people are concerned about the movie.

It also doesn't help that Mel Gibson happens to belong to an ultra-conservative sect of Catholicism which rejects the 1965 Vatican proclamation that the Jews are no longer to be held collectively guilty for killing Jesus.

This reminds me or a funny incident that happened a few months ago. I was going to a farewell dinner with a few of my co-workers, and one guy from another unit was there with us. It came out somehow that he was Jewish. One of my co-workers jokingly said "so, it was you people who killed Jesus". The reply he got back: "Damn right we did!"

I happened to miss that part of the article. My apologies.

I knew his father was an anti-Jew nutter, but never heard of Gibson's affiliation with a group of the same mindset.

A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

NY Daily News

The otherwise brilliant actor recently completed work on what sounds like a daring idea - "Passion," a multimillion-dollar feature film in Latin and Aramaic (the Hebraic dialect of Jesus) about the last 12 hours of Jesus' life. Trouble is, Gibson belongs to and finances a splinter group of revisionist Catholics who reject Vatican II and still insist those wicked Jews were behind Christ's passion.

I should have added that I never heard of these Catholics either, though I was raised Roman Catholic. Apparently they call themselves Tridentine Catholics.

Some further info on them

I've never heard of them either. I've never thought of there being "sects" of Catholicism.
