And now, I invite the VRWC to say a few words about how this is all just a plan to screw with people's heads.

Wow, a major union backing a Democrat? Who woulda thunk it?

This is like a press release saying the sky is blue.

I think it's more surprising in the context of which of the democratic candidates they're supporting. There are eight or nine of them, after all.

Lets see, is Carol Mosley Braun electable? No. Is Sharpton? No. It
all comes down to Clark and Dean, the rest of the field is forgettable.

A Republican in a Democrat hat and an actual Left Winger in the USA. Not the best of choices.

Pretty much the Republican party in 2000, a Democrat in a Republican Hat (McCain), and well..Bush.

Now now. Dean has an IQ measured in double digits.

Still, I can't see this turning out well. My opinion of Clark seems to fall each time I see him do something. While I support Dean and most of what he's put forth, I really have my doubts on him capturing enough.

McCain vs. Dean would make for a very interesting race, and we'd actually have two very worthy candidates that would make the moderates do a lot of thinking before going to the polls. Unfortunately, Shrubby is a lock-in for the Republican party nomination.

That seems to be common with the American People, also - Clark's lack of a defined platform is hurting him.

Definitely hurting him somewhat. But whafflers have gotten in before and probably will again.

As for Dean, I'm not suprised. Unions tend to endorse the Democratic front runner.

This is a big deal.

Until now it was thought that the unions were almost all solidly behind Gephardt, who has spent years fighting for them on Captiol Hill.

For a union as big as this one to jump ship would be a major event. Eventually the entire AFL-CIO might follow them, and in my opinion if that happens the likelihood of Dean winning the primary goes up a lot.

The unions don't make or break elections any more, but they still command a lot of votes and a lot of people who both will vote and volunteer on campaigns.
If you don't ask, how will you know?

Dean got Union backing because he is a "Metrosexual"
Dean declared himself a "metrosexual," the buzz phrase for straight men in touch with their feminine sides, as he touted his accomplishments in "equal justice" for gay and lesbian couples.

But then he waffled.
I wonder if the tough union guys and gals know this...
