An exciting day in Moscow, there's a fire that broke out across the way from the Kremlin on a day when Putin won a mandate of 68% of the vote.

Probably no connection, but its worth a thread. Come on, you Russophiles!

It's actually the Russian equivalent of the Reichstag fire, to cement the new autocratic regime.

Shiit, I just read the Russian source. The Manezh is gone, completely. Also, two firefighters died.

As much as I dislike Moscow, this is a sad day, if only for those men.

What is the Manezh?

A 180 year-old building, constructed by Alexander the 1st. It was the Imperial stables under the Czars, and a public center after them. Think of it as the Gugenheim or the Smithsonian. A treasured, national landmark that everyone recognized.
