Those inclines are funky. I did one that held your shins over the edge of the inclines so you effectively were crunching over a 135 degrees. Crunches, sit-ups, and all stomach exercises are, like other low-rep workouts, really for building and toning muscle. If you have only minimal fat to begin with, doing them will bulk up your abs and create the impression of specific weight loss, but the only way to really do that is true aerobic and long-term exercise. Running is King.

A traditional 'sit up' where you go from full horizontal to vertical is rubbish, as you're resting at both ends, and because you're braced against the floor, your hip flexors do a big part of the work.
To do it properly, get your feet off the floor, and stop yourself just before the vertical and horizontal, so that your abs are always supporting your weight.
Sit ups are, however, pretty poor for weight loss, as even beating the shit out of your abs doesn't burn that many calories. An all-over program will force your body to work to rebuild and repair the muscles you use (and damage) as you exercise, increasing your metabolic rate and causing more weight loss.
