Couple arrested after theological argument turns violent

Post by Darth Wong »

Too funny. http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/03/18/passi ... index.html
Couple arrested after 'Passion' fight

STATESBORO, Georgia (AP) -- A couple who got into a dispute over a theological point after watching "The Passion of the Christ" were arrested after the argument turned violent.

The two left the movie theater debating whether God the Father in the Holy Trinity was human or symbolic, and the argument heated up when they got home, Melissa Davidson said.

"It was the dumbest thing we've ever done," she said.

Davidson, 34, and her husband, Sean Davidson, 33, were charged with simple battery on March 11 after the two called police on each other. They were released on $1,000 bail.

According to a police report, Melissa Davidson suffered injuries on her arm and face, while her husband had a scissors stab wound on his hand and his shirt was ripped off. He also allegedly punched a hole in a wall.

"Really, it was kind of a pitiful thing, to go to a movie like that and fight about it. I think they missed the point," said Gene McDaniel, chief sheriff's deputy.
And it happened in Georgia. Is anyone surprised? 8)

i'm surprised full blown rioting hasn't erupted due to the Passion yet. . . .especially in the bible belt area.

If they're that steamed up over an interpretation of that movie, how come one hasn't killed the other yet over leaving the toliet seat up or something?

[sarcasm]because violence is wrong unless it's in defense of your religious beliefs. [/sarcasm]

I like the part where she said; 'I guess we totally missed the point of the movie.'

Ein: Indeed it was. I mentioned this to the fundie kid at my school, saying it was a tad excssive, and he said it wasn't excessive because it was meant to show what Jesus went through. I also commented that if it were Kill Bill or something similar he'd say it was overly violent. His response? "But this is different."

Well, I obviousily missed this thread when I posted about this over in SLAM. All I can say really is that this indeed proves that violent movies cause violence, and we should all blame Canada.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

I think Gibson created the movie with the most overreactive fanbase ever. After all, you never saw people walking out of theater for Gigli and getting into a violent argument over how much it sucked. Of course, the analogy may be flawed, since nobody saw Gigli, so I'll use another one: You never saw anybody getting into a violent argument over some minor aspect of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or Kill Bill.
