Is it typical to move Marines to a spot like Afghanistan directly from an ARG? I'd think they'd like to keep the ARG available for a crisis, then fly some Marines into Kabul. Moving them directly off the ARG doesn't seem necessary, and in fact seems like it would be more complex and expensive and would reduce the USN/USMC's ability to project power.

Bringing in a unit not already deployed means fucking up the training and rest cycle for that unit, which could leave it unavailable to fill a gap later which is already in the plans, its not just the Army that's mixed out. It also could take a considerable time for such a unit to assemble and mobilize. With the ARG the unit is fully ready for any mission and won't be doing anything else, I mean really... its in the Persian gulf next to about 150,000 other US troops. They can fly in rapidly by helicopter and be withdrawn nearly as fast should we need them elsewhere. Though it's not like the US is without any other rapid reaction forces. What it sounds like there doing after all is just a temporary deployment to beef things up for an operation, I highly doubt the marines aren't going to stay in Afghanistan for the rest of their deployment.

Um, thats what the MEUSOC is for. If they're in the neighborhood then it looks like they'll be used to beef up forces for the current operations in Afganistan and then more than likely be shipped back out to the ARG.Howedar wrote:Is it typical to move Marines to a spot like Afghanistan directly from an ARG? They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Okay. I'd have thought for a planned deployment they'd rather just fly them in than take them off the ARG.
But the deployment cycle thing makes a lot of sense.
