Re: Legality of attack on Usama Bin Laden [Split]
I'm still holding off on judging the operation, given that details are still coming out.
"Unarmed" is not necessarily harmless. If he was directing his followers during resistance, or urging his followers to shoot, that would make him a danger even if he was unarmed.
Then there is the problem of suicide vests, or attempting to summon additional aid.
I've also read confusing reports on this wife of his that was involved - everything from "human shield" to "she rushed the SEALs" (which implies she was an active participant in the fight, or intended to be).
Now, if it turns out he was lying helpless in bed and they shot him I'd find that objectionable (from the standpoint of shooting a helpless human being is bad, not the fact he is dead). So far, no indication of that particular scenario.
More information needed.

Do you have any idea how much food that is, or how stupid an idea that is? I mean do you have even 1% of a clue?ArmorPierce wrote: and dropping nuclear bombs on them isn't? If you really wanted to, you can allow food to enter or drop food for them.

Apparently your sense of proportion is so out of whack when you attempt to compare starvation to outright incineration.ArmorPierce wrote:and dropping nuclear bombs on them isn't? My grandparents from Leningrad would disagree. Arguably, starvation is worse as it takes longer.

Nah, from what I understand they had to shoot their way through most of the level before getting to the final boss.Broomstick wrote:Now, if it turns out he was lying helpless in bed and they shot him I'd find that objectionable (from the standpoint of shooting a helpless human being is bad, not the fact he is dead). Unarmed?
He should have armed himself if he was going to have airliners flown into the WTC.

More news coming out.
Bin Laden's daughter who was present (aged 12) has given a statement that he had already been captured and secured when he was shot. Bias is of course fairly evident here, but it's in the news cycle at the moment.

Given that the Special forces were wired and had cameras running, that claim should be quite easy to disprove.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood
