My point is that from their point of view nobody is going to know or care if they kill a bunch of random civilians in a country half way across the globe. And to some extent they are right. After all, do we even have any idea how many civilians they did kill by now?
They'd be right to an extent that can be defined by the amount of shit they can get away with before apathy and complacency are overcome and the constituency becomes outraged and organizes against the relevant abuse of power. Until that happens, I agree that they have no cause for concern.

Pretty sure this hasn't been posted yet, Ars technica wrote up a human readable version of all the technical flaws involved in the bombing[/url].

This sounds like a horrible fuckup of procedures. I can't speak with full confidence but from what I know about IAF procedures, this wouldn't be authorized at all and such actions would probably get the operations center CO to be suspended.

That is an excellent write-up.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood
