Hey now, Hillary Cuntfuck only takes campaign donations from the wonderful nation of Saudi Arabia where women have no rights and stoning them to death for adultery is a public celebration. But that's totally kosher because the US needs their oil so we'll just ignore that.

Let me go back and address these points more thoroughly.

Please tell me you're not actually going with the God damn "they're all the same" narrative.

You know, the one that pretty much exists only so cynics can pat themselves on the back for being smarter than the "sheeple" and third partiers can feel good about wasting their votes.
Remember that this is your assumption.
While there were certainly progress on social issues, most legislation passed was not to the general public's benefit in recent decades and while this study only goes up to 2002 (meaning this includes Bill Clinton's years), things such as the bank bailouts seem to further that trend; Princeton via BBC
Yeah, you're not going to find me singing Bill Clinton's praises, generally, but the fact that this shit happened in the past to a lesser degree doesn't change the fact that it is speeding up and escalating now.

Its like seeing that you've been driving toward a cliff for a while, and acting like that means their's no cause to be alarmed when someone cuts the brakes.
Clinton's deregulation of the banks was what led to the Great Recession and its effects are lasting to this day now...
Democrats have been losing state legislatures for years now and the majority are now Republican. It was always going to be bleak with them gerrymandering the shit out of those states.
See above.

Also, expect to see similar problems in Senate and Presidential races increasingly. They may not be able to gerrymander them the same way under the current system, but they can suppress the hell out of opposing media and the vote.
Yes, it has been increasingly regardless of Trump...
It was Bill who enacted the telecommunications act that allowed the media to be as monopolistic and corporatist as it is now.
Hardly the same as Trump's open contempt for the press, and his support for making it easier to sue journalists.
Given today's state of journalism, the greater damage has already been done. Trump wouldn't need to sue journalists, they'll just repeat what he says verbatim as they've been doing this whole damn fucking election if you haven't noticed. It was this same media that basically gave him free air time not in the name of journalistic integrity, but profit!
Why do you keep trying to shift the conversation onto how bad the Clintons are? I can't help thinking that a big part of why Trump won is that Hillary's critics were so caught up in how bad the Clintons are (both real and imagined), and in stopping Hillary, that they basically became blind to the fact that Trump has all of Clinton's flaws dialled up to eleven, plus a whole bunch of his own.
Maybe perhaps because what they've done led to where we are now?

Next thing you'll tell me I shouldn't blame Bush for sending us to Iraq when Obama has to deal with ISIS. It's Obama's fault that ISIS is around after all!
Hillary outspent Trump 2:1.
Yeah, money isn't everything. But the gutting of campaign finance regulations sure isn't going to help anything.
If you haven't realized it yet with what I posted above, this is and was happening already. Long before Trump came into focus as a candidate.
Citizens United broke that barrier already.

I don't like Hillary, as I'm sure you know, and I loath the Saudi government, but I truly believe that she'd be less damaging to human rights, civil liberties, and democracy over all, on a global scale, than Herr Trump.

And at least she'd be chosen by the American people, for whatever that's worth.

Its a shitty situation all 'round, and if I'd had my way, Bernie Sanders would be our President-elect now. But if it were a Clinton vs. Trump choice now, I'd make the same one I did when I filled out my mail ballot in October.

But don't pretend like you care so much more about human rights. If you did, you wouldn't be an apologist for Trump and Putin. At the very least, you're willing to compromise them for your opposition to Clinton.

No, it just makes your breathless Charleston Heston from 'Planet of the Apes' "IT'S A MADHOUSE! A MAAAADHOOOOUUUUUSE!!!" Style of posting all the more hilarious since you can stay in Canukistan and watch, criticizing from the sidelines while people who actually, you know, live here and suffer under Trump's private security and random pussy-grabbing (you're safe, thankfully) deal with it in everyday life.
I can't imagine how horrible this is for people (particularly women and minorities) living in America.

But I do dispute the claim that I am safe simply because I'm in Canada. The actions of the US President have global consequences. I am better off than some. I am not immune. And I'm not just talking about doomsday scenarios like an American civil war or World War III. Climate change will fuck us all. An economic crash will fuck us all. The further legitimization of bigotry and undermining of democracy will fuck us all.

In the end, nobody is going to benefit from a Trump Presidency. Probably not even Trump himself.
 That makes one of us.
Can't say I blame you on that one.
Well yeah, why give a shit how or why people in a state with (currently) protected wilderness and resources may end up looking like fucking Mordor as opposed to the beautiful land, with widely diverse people, and wilderness that will probably get raped? But the Russians!!!
Who says I don't care about both?

The latter is of more immediate concern to the security of the world as a whole though. It may not be a nice thing to say, but its true.

If you believe that you're dumber than a bag of dicks. TPP and TTIP are dead thanks to Trump getting elected, that alone is worth more in improved human rights and reduced suffering than anything Clinton can accomplish, and it won't be cancelled out by anything bad Trump can do short of getting the entire world nuked. Getting those agreements killed means that all the poorer nations in Asia now have a chance to set their own future instead of becoming permanent slave nations for the global powers.

I doubt TPP as it was would have passed Congress anyway- it had serious opposition on both the Left and Right.

And I rather suspect any advantages to getting rid of TPP for those countries will be more than balanced out by the effects of Climate Change, or as Herr Trump calls it, a Chinese hoax.

Edit: Oh, and a major war centred in that part of the world is a real possibility if Trump keeps clumsily provoking China.

Amusingly, "Hitlery" directly likens Clinton to Hitler, implying evil. "Herr Trump" sort of ties Trump to Germany, implying evil, I think.

My point, which despite being spelled out quite clearly apparently flew right over your vendettapath head, is that he is doing the exact same thing to Hillary that people attack me for doing to Trump, and as I could have predicted, not only does no one call him out for it, you all are rushing to defend him and attack me for pointing out the irony.

Why not just say "Its only bad if TRR does it"? Because as far as I can see, that's what this amounts to.

Aside from all the screeching and dogpiling, I just wanted to say...
Khaat wrote:
Civil War Man wrote:The thing with proportional EC voting, I find, is that it either has the same reliability or representation problems we have with the current system (especially since gerrymandering is still a thing), or it's basically just adding an extra unneeded layer of complexity to just having a straight popular vote. Plus, there's still the whole thing I've pointed out in the other thread that the EC rewards a lack of voter participation, which is a pretty critical flaw in an ostensibly democratic system.
Now that would be interesting: adjust the number of EC votes by the voter turn-out. If total registered voter turn-out for the state is 58%, the state only gets 58% of its Electoral votes this time around. If they bump-up voter turn-out, they can get to cast more. States never actually lose their Electoral votes, they just have to be "silent", like their voter base (or "no confidence" votes.) This would have to be widely accepted (like Amendment-level accepted), so every state is held to it. Each state would have to take voter roll maintenance seriously, and work against voter suppression, since it would cost the state Electoral College votes to keep opposition from voting.

Appealing to the middle would force extremists to the periphery, and get "loyal opposition" government back to work.
I like this idea very much and I think it's elegant.

I mean, they lost the Presidency to a man who bragged about grabby pussies on tape. Hard to fuck up more in politics than that.
