Part of what the media seems to be ignoring is the incredibly dorky 3 guys that are also on stage in underwear that leave nothing to the imagination (one of which appears to be spongebob-themed)

Why the hell not? It's their own choice. If they're being coerced into it, then by all means, charge those responsible, but I see no reason why anyone should be prevented from doing whatever the hell they want with their body so long as they are capable of understanding the consequences of it.

And honestly, the kind of people who will judge all females based on what some do in shitty videos are...well...the kind of people who judge the whole based on what some might do, and aren't necessarily the kind of people I want to get opinions from.

Maybe some people are enlightened enough to realize that a woman can be respected as a person and be an unrepentant object of sexual desire. Nobody looks at a guy who works out and builds a great set of muscles and then runs down the beach in a speedo or wears tight pants at a dance club and says "how is he ever going to be respected as a person"? They know that if he has a decent education and puts on a business suit in the morning, he will immediately get respect.

The real chauvanists are the idiots who think that a woman is somehow permanently devalued the instant she flashes her tits or shakes her booty: a mentality that is nothing more than the watered-down bastard cousin of the Taliban's attitude toward women.

Mr. Wong and Damien I understand that the woman who do this thing are often intelligent and capable woman, unfortunately as you have pointed out many males are not so enlightened.
I also dislike the mentality that often leads to this, as the mentality is inherently devaluing of females. If a girl wants to get up on stage and dance, wants to put on a performance for a crowd, wants to wear a short skirt to exhibit her butt or anything else, I am fine for it. If she truly wants to, but I find it stretches my beliefs that so many women really want to drink jello shots from the roommates breasts and then make out. Perhaps I am missing out on a basic part of female psychology, but most heterosexual woman probably don't want to do such a thing, but go along because of overwhelming peer pressure from society. It's that peer pressure I hate, because the pressure comes from a viewpoint that is inherently sexist and treats women purely as objects of sexual desire.

Isn't that similar to the argument for the don't-ask-don't-tell policy? Some idiots are too closed-minded to like it, so we should keep the others down to appease them.

They are capable of giving informed consent on this. Humans are capable of rational thought, and if they fail to use this in favour of 'fitting in' with the guys, it's their own damn fault.

I can sympathize with you, though. I do make attempts to get the female friends I know who do this to question why they're doing it. The fact is, though, that it is their choice whether or not they take the advice I offer.

Welcome to the joyful world of misanthropy. I dedicate my life to fighting that exact sort of destructive herd-mentality. Unfortunately society remains the way it is because the people who are part of it voluntarily continue to do so, men *and* women. Change is possible, but it requires a large percentage to work for it, i.e. the 20's womens' movements and things like that. Yes, women are 'devalued' by today's culture. Yes, it is not really their fault. But they are not going to make things better for themselves unless they voluntarily break from the status quo and fight back.

Tell that to my co-nationals

Last year (or was it 2005?) we had a media freak show when a high school fistfight was filmed with a cellphone and posted on Youtube. You know, just a fistfight like they have several times a week. But the public opinion exploded. You know, "our children aren't safe" and all that crap. As if it was news to anyone. The natural reaction? There was a flurry of such films, some even exposing classroom incidents (i.e. something much more serious). In the end, very little was done - thankfully, as this was a very nasty insight into the local mentalities.
