Way back in high school a good friend of mine did a GAP year in Ontario; he told me once about a party he went to that got broken up by police and even had a helicopter involved. I was impressed, and wondered what sort of rural Canadian towns need a helicopter, until he informed me that they used to it spot the pot crop growing in the middle of the field of primary produce.
Then a few years back, about an hour where my older sister lives, which is in the middle of NOWHERE, Police busted a camo mary jane operation that was measured in the thousands of square metres.

Yup, from what I understand it is also done in Ontario but the police cannot use FLIR as evidence of a grow-op in someone's home if they want to get a search warrant. Something about violating the homeowners rights and freedom.Cpl Kendall wrote:The RCMP detachments in BC have helicopters with FLIR but they usually use them to look for dope ops in the woods or along the border, not in houses.SCRawl wrote:
No, there needs to be a little more disincentive to starting a grow-op. This sort of thing isn't bad, but it could be better. I've also heard of police using a helicopter rigged with FLIR to find unusual heat sources, and peg them in that manner for further investigation. I don't know if any of the police services in BC have access to helicopters, but it seems to me that that could work.
