My former housemate used a great analogy:

(The original version was GREATLY expanded with a step by step technical breakdown)
So - people are willing to accept that we can have live TV broadcasts from anywhere in the world to our living room. But they won't believe we can filter poop out of water?

Then there's the fact that a lot of the electronics involved in this process have MUCH smaller components than the stuff that would be getting filtered out.

Oh it's perfectly fine in some places... like Tasmania...

A story in today's paper talked about a local company that has started exporting bottled water to fancy restaurants in europe for ~AU$50 a half litre...

There's also a tale of a local company that had the only contract to ship bottled water for Aus and US troops in Iraq in 1991 that didn't have to be checked for impurities.. due to the sheer lack of them...

Every house should get a water tank... if people can live off a simple carbon filter and water tank then people can survive heavily treated recycled water where they put just as much crap in as comes out.
All people are equal but some people are more equal than others.

You'd never get here before the taps don't work anyway, so your laughable ignorance is irrelevant.

The situation amuses me all the more because I've seen water purification plants around Brisbane: the water they take in is pretty terrible stuff, and the water they release has very high standards. By the time it gets to your house, the poor quality of the pipeline has a *far* greater impact on colour/taste/purity of the tap water than the original water that went through the plant.

But clearly, if you filter used water to the same standards, it's way worse, right? In some totally non-measurable way, decided by ignorant morons who don't know anything about the water purification process?

We all look up to astronauts, right?

Astronauts drink recycled water.

Good enough for super-spacemen astronauts, is good enough, for me.

Just ignore DP's silly comment. He's a very picky eater, and I guess that extends to beverages as well.

Seriously dear, eat something. :P
