And your average suburbanite who takes whatever the press tells them as fact. I didn't get a 'redneck' vibe from the story about Squid's parents as much as a 'sheltered community' thing.Darth Wong wrote:You mean "most rednecks don't see it that way".CaptainChewbacca wrote:Of course, most folks didn't see it that way.

I guess I wasn't clear enough. Your entire country leans redneck. There are pockets of civilization in the urban centres, surrounded by vast seas of redneck stupidity. That's why anti-gay bills passed by an average of 80% in the last election.CaptainChewbacca wrote:And your average suburbanite who takes whatever the press tells them as fact. My parents definitely aren't redneck, but especially my mom believes a lot of stuff the media throws out without questioning any of it. It kinda seems like a lot of people depend on the media nowadays as a crutch to tell them what to think. What did they teach those baby boomers in schools?CaptainChewbacca wrote:And your average suburbanite who takes whatever the press tells them as fact. Try watching educational videos from the 1950s and 1960s. That will give you an idea of why baby boomers are collectively so fucking stupid.squidman001 wrote:My parents definitely aren't redneck, but especially my mom believes a lot of stuff the media throws out without questioning any of it. The current generation isn't any smarter...
Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with it being bullshit. I remember the story and didn't see anything about him refusing to recite the pledge or anything like that. And even if he did, who fucking cares? Nationalists aside, of course.
Funny how the person that shouts about how great our nation is because we're free to say what we want is often the same exact person who thinks you should get the fuck out of here if you don't think America is the greatest thing since Jesus. Maybe even better.

Hmm. Snopes says that it is true that Obama didn't put his hand over his heart while the anthem was being sung. Even so, I don't see why putting the hand over the heart during the anthem should be considered a necessary condition for being president; it's not like this is relevant at all to any policy issues.

Why not? I'd say there's real evidence that every generation since the Baby Boomers has better sense than they did. During their early adulthood, the Boomers fell into two groups:Napoleon the Clown wrote:The current generation isn't any smarter...
1) Racist warmongers.
2) Drug-addicted New Age hippies.
And the second group eventually joined the first. Even today, movements like the massive push toward the right-wing in America have been fueled largely by the Boomers. Younger people are far more likely to be liberal.

Well I'd say there's a third group, that's much smaller than both.Darth Wong wrote:Why not? I'd say there's real evidence that every generation since the Baby Boomers has better sense than they did. Like this crazy moron who thinks he can sue people for firing him from a job he volunteered to do free of charge, for not letting him on cable access, for calling him a liar over the internet, and sueing YouTube for not giving him peoples' personal info for the lawsuits. (Follow all the replies to himeself he made)
People like Gary are drug addled hippies who became bitter.
