In all fairness, most front porches I've seen aren't quite the same as being fully inside the house. Usually the front porch is of highly different construction, and has little more than a flimsy screen door in front of it. The house proper is usually sealed up a bit more securely while the front porch remains unlocked. So since the article made no mention of it, I don't think they truly got 'inside' the house proper.

My thinking was, if you didn't have access to the house there would be absolutely no point in congregating on the front porch when you were ransacking the barn.

Yes, you're right, I should have said some people. Still, the looting mentality is seen quite often, and not precisely by those in dire need of it.

But well, at least the "Honest lady" seemed to be sincerely concerned for the Horse's welfare.
