Anyhow - this is whacko plot number two against Obama by my count (the prior one was a couple of good ol' boys - not neo-nazis but just plain ol' white bigots). Truth is, whackos stalk all presidents, and to a lesser extent candidates (Robert Kennedy was shot while campaigning, hence secret service details for candidates now), that's why we have the secret service. Reagan was shot by a loonie with a handgun despite a bodyguard, so really, you have to take even whackos with bad plans seriously because once in a while one of them might actually get through security. That's why the secrect service have no sense of humor - the US has had too many presidents shot over the years (just off the top of my head - Lincoln, Garfield, Theodore Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Reagan, three of those five fatally. Wouldn't surprise me if there are others that have slipped my mind)

If Obama is elected I expect we'll see more of these over the years, I just hope none of them successful.

Jackson, both Roosevelt's, Truman, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Clinton, and both Shrubs all faced unsuccessful assassination attempts. Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan were the only of these who were actually shot or otherwise wounded.

Obama 'assassin' says sorry

A teenager who plotted to kill US presidential candidate Barack Obama as part of a national killing spree is sorry, his family says.

Kayla Schlesselman told the Associated Press that her brother Paul didn't like black people, but the 18-year-old's plan wasn't serious.

"He's sorry about everything he's done," she said at the family's Arkansas home yesterday.

Ms Schlesselman said her brother didn't like their tiny community of Helena-West Helna because it was prominently black. She also said he believed he was the master race, and would say things like "white power" and "Heil Hitler".

US authorities reported yesterday that Schelesselman and Daniel Cowart, 20, had planned to rob a gun shop and target a predominantly black high school, shooting 88 blacks and decapitating another 14.

But Schlesselman's father, Mike, said he didn't believe his son would have carried out the plot and that it was "just a lot of talk".
