While technically true, its bullshit spin of the highest order.
"Guilty until proven innocent". Gotta love that mindset. :wtf:
Actually since the search turned up no drugs, its more like, "Innocence proves nothing."

And I agree that strip searching is insane. Schools should not have this as a protected right. I don't know about everywhere, but at both my Jr. high and high school there were local police who liaised with the school and would hang around campus from time to time. IF something more intrusive than opening bags and a pat down is required, the law should require police officers to authorize it and perform it or be present (if the cop is the wrong gender to do the search.)

Its not that surprising really. My roomate James is from a small town in Iowa, the school he went to is zero tolerance insane. If you report another student bringing drugs/weapons/ect. to school you are equally punished with them. After all if you saw it you must have been in on it with them. Strangely this kind of non-sense never made it into my highschool while I was there (though a lot of less immediately harmful bullshit did). Most of these 'zero tolerance' problems happen in areas that don't actually need them so they get ridiculously enforced. After all if you don't enforce the rule on somebody how does anybody know your doing it. Places that actually need these rules let minor infractions slide. In a heavy drug use area school who cares if Danny has prescription Advil here come Tom the crack dealer. Jamal has a swiss army knife, so what, here's Rickie with a glock.

Um, no? First of all, the suburbs and the country have just as many drug problems as the city schools. The only thing that changes is the drug; crack in the city, meth in rural schools, Vicodin in suburbia. And strip-searching a student for contraband Advil is just as ridiculous in any of them. Second, no, actually, a school with violence problems is not going to let minor weapons infractions slide (there's no such thing as a minor weapons infraction). If "Jamal" somehow gets a knife through the metal detector only to get caught later, he's going to be arrested.

It depends on what state you live in and the school's own policies on enforcing the zero tolerence laws. My cousin goes to an inner city highschool in North Carolina and was the specific example I was thinking of. He carries a swiss army knife everywhere, and has never been busted for it. They have too many real problems to bother him over it even with 'zero tolerance' policies in place.

Setesh, when you say "never been busted" do you mean he's been found carrying it and they declined to punish him or do you mean they've never found it?

I'm wondering the same thing. Because frankly, this smells like a line of bullshit. I've worked in inner city schools, and I can damn well tell you a Swiss army knife is not a "minor" violation of any kind in any school I've ever heard of. If Setesh's cousin's school is actually letting kids carry Swiss Army knives on their person, and the high school is actually the kind of place where a knife fight is a possibility, then it's run by fucking idiots.
