On the one hand, FOXNews is definitely acting exactly like their own caricature. On the other hand, I doubt the average FOXNews viewer will see that.

As cartoonish and stupid as all of this is, Hannity has not lost his viewership. People aren't saying "fuck this guy, he's an idiot" and dropping his show in droves. This says to me that his audience thinks the man is actually worth watching, despite being dumber than my dog.

It's an unfortunate reality that, as others have said, no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. Sure, none of the educated and well-read people you know will go for this, but the kind of guy who thought "Joe The Plumber" was a sage political commentator will probably agree 100% with Hannity on this one. And sadly, there are millions of those mouth-breathing knuckle-dragging morons out there.

'Elitism' in American politics is such a poisonous word. And I don't know why. It's not like he wanted North Sea Caviar with real Belgian truffles or anything on his burger, it's a different kind of mustard for goddess's sake. Naturally, it's to provoke a reaction from people who somehow see this as 'elitist'.

But again, what is elitism? With traits like displaying intellectualism disdained, don't we WANT our leaders to be actually better than us? I keep hearing people and the radio and whatnot go on and on about the problems in the country, but nobody suggests 'We need smarter leaders'.

Thank goodness he didn't ask for Hot Sauce on the side like I do- they would've had a field day.

1. He's the PRESIDENT: If he can't have it his way, then what the fuck good is it to be the president?
2. He's health-conscious: He didn't order a coffee, maybe because he has to make decisions that affect the free world and doesn't want to be strung-out on caffeine. Perhaps also, is that he knows when he drinks coffee he's going to want to smoke (a common combination- coffee and cigarettes) and doesn't want to smoke on TV.
3. He did this exact same thing during the 2008 campaign (ordering Dijon in the heartland), so this is NOT news.

The people within the party are no better. Witness party insiders saying they would actually support Rush Limbaugh as a candidate, or Sarah Palin saying that urban Americans are not "real" Americans.

They should be very careful with this.

Dijon is a little spicer then normal mustard (to some people), this could be spun as 'Obama is so bad-ass cool, he likes spicy hamburgers'.
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Wait what, this is NEWS?!?! Lessee what's happened in the last week: unemployment up, "Stress Test" numbers delayed, fudged then released, $12 billion "savings" really just money redistributed to other programs, NY Fed chief resigns, Russia and the Ukraine are still fighting over energy, Chrysler's bankrupt, ACORN's being investigated in 11 states, and Pakistan's still fighting the Taliban...and Hannity, Ingram and Steyn, whoever he is, latch on to this? Why? This is attempted character assassination on the most petty of scale; if I recall correctly, Hannity repeatedly accused the Democrats of character assasination of Bush, McCain and Palin in the 2008 elections, but then he wastes time on this nothing event. I don't get it, and don't want to get it.

Besides, when I say "can I haz cheezeburger?" I ask for mayonnaise. Uh oh.

Any port in the storm, I suppose, for the moron factory of the gutless right. If these people weren't such spineless wimps they'd be able to find a few more interesting stories to write about, but this is contemptable from top to bottom. It's not even just a funny kind of smear, or looking ridiculous, it's not like this is even that odd of a choice. This is a place that sells spicy burgers and he ordered a spicy mustard. I like spicy mustard on my burger, and I like ketchup, but I like the mustard more than the ketchup. Maybe it's a Chicago-area thing as a result of the taboo with eating hotdogs with ketchup, but I've got like 3 flavors of mustard in my posession.

Besides the immaturity of making big deals out of condiments, and pretending like a dijon mustard is all that fancy, this just makes the insane accusation that you're somehow unamerican for wanting something other than yellow mustard. On a burger, yeah, usually yellow for me. But I'd like to see them actually make a case about that being more American or less elitist than any other mustard aside from the fact that it's sometimes easier to access.

Now, elitism is indeed a dirty word, but part of that is the idea that people have that anything less than the best is no good, and it makes you a bad person. I've run into these kinds of people plenty of times, so I know that the attitude exists. But that's usually just a bigotry of one sort or another, or crass snobbery, and this attitude from FOX is elitism. You can be an elitist snob who champions the most mundane condiments, but if that's your ideal, then you're a fucking elitist bastard.

I notice that this totally irrevelant story has gotten 35 replies; and 1,300 views from Dominos basically trolling through the whackiest sites out there, and then presenting it as representative of the entire right wing.

Meanwhile, the news that Obama is likely to revive military tribunals, As posted by me seems to have gotten everyone's tongue, since they're not posting.

Because it didn't say anything. Anonymous sources leak that the option to restart military tribunals is being considered, but Obama has yet to make a decision and will extend the existing ban for another three months. Wake me when something happens.

To be fair to at least part of the OP, I'm pretty sure that Steyn was joking. He does have a very good sense of humour (IIRC, he got his big break covering the Clinton impeachment for the Telegraph).

Everyone else, on the other hand, has no excuse.

Personally, I put steak or barbecue sauce on damn near everything.

On the topic of this in the aspect besides how I like my meat patties and bread, this just goes hand in hand with the GOPs self-destructive path they've been barreling down as of late. Redemption could come, but that would require they grow a brain and let fucktards stop speaking for the party.

Videos like that actually help explain the GOP's behaviour. Their hardcore followers are every bit as bad as their "whackiest" media personalities, if not worse. They get nothing but positive feedback from people like this, which only hardens their stance.

It's really a lot like a religion, which is ironic because they claim to already have a religion. But their particular religion is a custom-made variety. Their version of Jesus is a heavily armed rich person who drives a Hummer and doesn't give a shit about the environment or the poor. Instead of "Let Caesar have what is Caesar's" or "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter Heaven", the Republi-Jesus would say "Tax cuts for the wealthy! Stop asking rich people to be less selfish! The great moral issue of the day is not greed or selfishness, it is those damned faggots and lesbians!"

I wasn't kidding with that "Y'all hurr" rant I did earlier in the thread. Around here at least, the average "conservative" actually thinks like that. They see the rest of the world as stereotypes, i.e the French are effeminate suddender monkies, the British are sniff snobs with bad teeth, etc. Then you get into the upper class of the GOP and they know better, but they propagrate this horse shit on the lower class members of their party because it makes them easier to control. They can say stupid shit like "Oh, Obama like Dijon mustard, and that stuff's French, and REAL MEN put Ketchup on their burgers because that's the AMERICAN WAY! Obama hates America!" and these dumb bastards take them seriously because they don't know any better.

Fuck it, I'm done making excuses for the South... I've seen more rabid stupidity in the last hundred days or so since Obama took office with this nitpicking turbo-retard conservative talking head horseshit then I have in the last ten years I've lived here.

Also, it's just dogpile on the idiot media outlet that gets a dramatic share of the viewing base. Even if they're fringe idiots, they're fringe idiots with a great degree of accessibility and advertising to the population. Plus, it's certainly no surprise people reply to things that rouse their particular ire, and complaining about mustard is hard to pass up when you're just waiting for another opportunity to have your views vindicated by the very people you hold in contempt. It's like every time Pelosi does something that's pretty much retarded, the Right takes a swing at her. That's probably appropriate enough from their point of view, but the mustard thing should be left to their comedians, if they have any.

You gotta remember, a group of the people we are whacking at are David Shuster and Chris Matthews for their diner-related commentary.

The fact that such asinine views are expressed by people so high up on the conservative ladder is news itself.

Shep's complaint about his alternate story being ignored is meaningless; rumours are a dime a dozen. Under the Bush Administration, we had to not only have proof that an idea was being considered (instead of just rumours), but we had to have proof that it was accepted and proof that it was actually taking place. Even after we had proof that it was taking place, they demanded we show proof that it was sanctioned at the highest levels! Anything less and it was assumed to be nothing more than a "left-wing smear campaign".

There's a double-standard here all right, but it's not the one Shep thinks it is.
