That won't work. Glenn Beck was very thankful for government health care when he was sick, a few weeks later he went back to raging against it.

He probably was basing it on how conservatives were celebrating when Ted Kennedy died. I don't really get it. Why would you simply hate someone who is compassionate to the needs of other human beings even if you disagree with him. Rush is greedy hate filled person and deserves to die. As for him making a recovery and mending his ways? I think that's about as likely as him shooting rainbows out of his ass.

And the thing is that they Really DID celebrate. There where quite a few columnists published by Right Wing nutjubs during that time that amounted to:
"Well the World is better off without him, and oh yes he Killed that girl in the river."
And of course any time you called them out they would respond with that oh so conceded tone "Well you people would celebrate if 'X' conservative died, right?"

No, no we wouldn't, we might inwardly be thankful.. but we don't go around dancing in the streets. The fact that Conservatives THINK we do, simply reveals how They see the world...

General update: Rush was released earlier today from the hospital. The doctors have no explanation for the severe chest pain but have ruled out heart attack or cardiac disease; one possible explanation is that chest pain/tightness is a severe side effect of the anti-inflammatory oral steroid Prednisone which Rush mentioned that he was taking. In his press conference upon his release, Rush praised the American healthcare system as "the best in the world" and insisted that he was given no more treatment than a typical middle-class white male of his age.

Sorry to disappoint anyone who was hoping for his death or, failing that, that he'd come out of it with a different viewpoint on the healthcare system.

(BTW: here's the link to a website about his recovery and a Fox News streaming of the press conference.)

All the pictures I've ever seen of him my whole life have been "old fat guy at death's door." Limbaugh is only slightly older than my mom and she's probably got three decades ahead of her and his heart's trying to explode. Was he just born old or was it just a lifelong being a fatass who drives his blood pressure up at no provocation?
He's an enormous, drug abusing overweight man who prides himself on living an intensely unhealthy lifestyle and who's job is being professionally outraged on the radio. That he's made it to 58 is nothing short of a marvel of medical science.

I'm actually kind of shocked. Given his general diet for much of his life of fried foods, huge cigars, and perscription drugs, on top of making a career out of being an angry asshole, you'd think he was trying to give himself a heart attack in record time. I'm doubting he received the same treatment as a typical middle-class white male of his age though.

If he didn't have any serious illness and was just being checked out, receiving the same care as a typical middle-class white male wouldn't have made much difference anyway, since he would most probably recover by himself.

Well, fairly recently he undertook a program of diet and exercise that allowed him to shed most of his excess weight and prescription drugs come in all forms, some of which strain the heart (apparently, Prednisone can do this but it isn't addictive) and some of which does not. I'm actually not surprised at all that his chest pains turned out to be nothing; he's always struck me as being relatively healthy despite his love of a good Cuban and he's certainly a relaxed man. Now, if Mark Levin had his heart self-destruct, I wouldn't be surprised at all... given that he has had heart disease in the past AND is a rather angry person.

Cardiovascular damage typically isn't undone by short term diet and exercise and even after that regime, he still isn't in particularly good shape. Men of his age and habits often do get heart attacks and heart disease; the latter is the number one killer of people in the United States after all. Combine this with a career that is basically being Outraged in Public, IE stress and it's somewhat shocking that his chest pains didn't turn out to be anything. That's not a comment on Rush, that's a comment on late 50s men in the US in general, though Rush being a long time drug addict who uses large amounts of tobacco certainly doesn't help.

Yeah, I don't know where the hell Serafine666 would get the idea that if a fat guy who smokes cigars and abuses prescription drugs goes on a crash diet, he can now be declared "relatively healthy". Relative to whom?

As for the earlier comments, the people who say they would never celebrate the death of another human being are full of shit. Almost everybody would, depending on who that human being is. To take an extreme example, it's OK to celebrate the death of a guy like Ted Bundy. The real question is: at what point do you consider someone so malignant that his death is a large net-positive, worthy of celebration? Making absolute blanket statements accomplishes nothing except, perhaps to make people look like they're posturing.

Relative to a significantly more overweight man who presently abuses prescription drugs, smokes like a chimney stack, and is either overwrought to a degree that affects health or is constantly subjected to high stress (neither of which describes Rush's situation).

That's stupid. By that token, everyone on the planet who's not yet dead is "relatively healthy", because you can just define it to be relative to whoever you want.

Hey now. I really doubt Rush would ever manage to get the energy to run the biggest country and have several dozens of wives/concubines.

I think the point was that Ramses isn't doing that stuff anymore now that he's, you know, been dead for a few dozen centuries.
