You need to pay attention more to Question Period while Parliament is in session. Questions are almost always ignored or deflected and instead the answers given have almost no relevance to the questions.
Two points:
1) I'm quite familiar with political deflection, talking points, cheap segues, etc. What Palin did was below even that standard. She literally ignored the question and said "I'd prefer to talk about ..."
2) Question Period happens all the time. It's not like a high-profile political debate which is a major event, and for which one is expected to actually be on his best game.

The only one was the claim she only had her son to appeal to the anti abortion nuts. Of course the only guy I heard that from was bigoted against people with down's syndrome. Unfortunately I didn't see any of Palin's interviews so I generally refrain from commenting on them.

You obviously think that the attacks on her were similar to the (completely idiotic and ridiculous) Birther attacks on Obama not because they were of similar merit, but because you had some emotional attachment to Palin despite her myriad flaws, and you reacted to criticism the way a high school kid reacts if you say that his girlfriend could stand to lose a few pounds.
