This is is becoming particularly irksome to me lately because Clinton just pledged $15 million to Poland for its preservation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Not that it isn't a worthy cause for all kinds of reasons, but really, it's in Europe and I don't see why we are paying for a memorial in another country when we have concerns here.CaptHawkeye wrote:In USS Olympia's case, I honestly can't imagine the ship being sent to a breaker or sunk as a reef. The ship is well known in museum and military circles and I would be astounded if it was just totally abandoned by god knows how many naval museums in the United States who already have the budgets to support fucking battleships. Then again, that might go back to the precious balance a lot of these museums operate on.
I'm just hoping that as this nebulous "deadline" gets closer, someone steps forward and does the right thing. At this point, I'd be happy if Comcast (which has its headquarters in Philadelphia) funded the necessary work and painted a fucking Xfinity logo on Olympia's deck for its trouble.
That, or maybe I'll win the Powerball and buy myself a warship.
