Someone here in Kalispell just paid her bail and she gets out of jail tonight. And on the local news people are blaming the City of Loveland because its their fault such an offensive painting was on display.

Then good for you? Who gives a shit if someone's offended by something? The whole point of this train of thought earlier was to point out the hypocrisy of their actions.

On the first half of the page there was a bunch of posts along the lines of:

Whether it's people like this, or other religious extremists getting all hot and bothered at perceived insults to their all-powerful deity, be it from bad art (piss-drenched Jesus) or crude cartoons, I'm always amused (so to speak) at their reactions.

Why does your god need you to defend him from such rudeness? Can he not cope?

It's amusing: I've seen people liken art like that to "making a picture about your mother smeared in shit. Would you like to see that?". The failure to note that God is supposedly immortal, omnipotent and all-knowing, unlike my mother (who also happens to be a real person, of course) is hilarious.

Yeah, you think if the deity in question was upset he'd personally take action, even if in some "mysterious way". Though people like her sometimes rationalize their behavior with the "I'm God's instrument" crap, or "I'm acting on behalf of the Lord"; as if Jesus really needs to outsource his work to Large Marge.

This is what I'm responding to. Because all this stuff only makes sense if you ignore the fact that people have reason to think a work is stupid and insulting and lacking in artistic merit regardless of whether they think that it provokes the wrath of Big Bearded Sky Man. So they have a right to freak out and shout about it. They would have that right if it were making fun of anything.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to keep pointing this out since nobody's arguing otherwise.

Because I want to pre-empt a counterargument I think would be retarded, since I'm not sure I can count on the people I'm talking to not to make it.

There's only one? I'm seeing something like half a dozen people talking here, and I don't see much unity of aim among them.

This isn't a hive mind, Zod; the fact that what I'm saying doesn't make sense to you personally doesn't mean that I'm saying something irrelevant.

Again, a lot of the reply comments here seem to entirely miss the idea that someone might even care that art making fun of things they like exists.
