NASA has put up some before and after shots showing the power outages: link.

It really shows off just how patch-work the outages are - it's not like the '03 outage where swaths of the country were without power, but it's lots of little areas that add up and reduce the brightness of the lights.

Sunday afternoon had another nasty windy thunderstorm, and this time Nit & I lost power too. :(

Due to his illness, we ran for a hotel. This is Night Two in the hotel, and they *may* have power restored by noon Tues (tomorrow)

Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

They needed to show more of the picture, so you could see the rest of WV. There is still a HUGE SWATH of black below The Pitt to give you some clue. The tiny small bright spot closer to Pittsburg is Morgantown, home of WVU.

Click on the images to get larger images of a much wider area (all the way out to Chicago).

Jaysus frak, that is just scary, how much of the land goes dark.

There are now 'only' 40k customers left without power as of Monday at 10p. The problem is the possibility of another bad storm knocking out MORE power, like the last 3 storms did. It's been one-step forward, two steps back.

The sad part, there's already rumors that AEP: Appalachian Power will be asking the state for a Rate Increase ... again.

The Chicago-area power company already did ask for a rate increase based on taking care of last year's storm damage - can only imagine they'll do it again.

On the TV news tonight it was reported that the US government issued a report that finally 'fessed up that this global warming thing is due to human activities and it's progressing. Gee, they finally noticed something odd was happening...
