Rick Perry was apparently on some pretty powerful painkillers when he ran in 2012 that could easily explain his gaffes. I mean a Republican doesn't need to be a political genius to win the Texas governorship but it's a big state and even though the Governor of Texas has little power compared to most other states the vast majority of voters don't know that and just see him as a guy running a very successful state.

It's a gamble. They're basically betting for their own ability to ensure that the outcome will be an electable candidate, and against the risk that the outcome will be an unelectable nutjob and a 'Tea Party coup' that overturns the current RNC membership's control of the American right.

Or that's how I perceive it- they may see things differently.

Yes, that may be the explanation- but the thing is, Rick Perry somehow became the Republican frontrunner for a period of weeks, despite all his weaknesses (painkillers messing with his mind, whatever).

If that is even a thing that can happen, then it is inherently a gamble for the RNC to start holding primaries quickly, without giving the Republican candidate pool time for the weak candidates to discredit themselves with the base.

I agree it's a gamble, but there were a lot of factors that led to GOP defeat in 2012. Herman Cain, who apparently got his tax plan from Sim City 2000 was also a frontrunner for a few weeks. It was just a whacky primary. The problem really wasn't the length IMO it was the fact that Romney got crammed down the throats of the base who almost literally were trying to go with anyone BUT him throughout the primary process. I believe that this suppressed some of the Republican turnout who just couldn't hold their noses and vote for a Taxachussetts Governor who made the bulk of his uninherited money by shipping American jobs to Chinese hellholes. It was a weak field. And it's going to be even weaker for them in 2016 since Christie is no longer being fellated constantly by the MSM since they stopped working the shaft long enough to realize he was a fat vindictive bully. The only serious candidate they have now is... Rick Perry. In about 3 years we're going to find out if Americans are dumb enough to "elect" another Texan drug addict.

If you want my honest opinion, Hillary should just start measuring the drapes because barring her having a massive stroke she's gonna be POTUS 45.

That was Rick Santorum, and what he said is somewhat debatable (some say he was trying to say "negotiator", but I find that pretty unlikely considering how he paused himdelf afterwards and continued from a completely different section of the speech).

Well he also said he wasn't interested in making poor blacks lives better, then went on TV and said he never said "blacks" he said "blahs". Oh GOP, never change. Seriously, never ever.
