Thats why all my music & video files have their permisions tweaked.

Cant delete file/subfolder, or modify existing files or create new ones. And this applies to the admistrator group as well (and admin can go and change the file permisions to get around this).

I just enable the write file restriction, add the files in question & disable the write file restriction.

Since I rarely run as the Administrator, stuff cant just randomly install itself (since I dont have write access to most of the harddrives).

I know it isnt perfect, but it sure as hell better than running win98.

My current account has debug privalages, which I'm thinking of moving to another account to do my development work in.

Oh, this is funny. The DoS attack has continued... it started at 7 PM PST and it's now 9 AM PST. That's over twelve hours.

There's got to be some kind of record for this.

I doubt that any of the viruses they distribute will be Mac OS X executables, so I should be relatively safe.

LOL. The safest way to avoid virus's, just buy a Mac. :P

Indeed, but now we have to worry about *nix exploits with OS X.

I wonder how these things will act. I'm sure that the people behind these virus' ... er, copyright protection programs' development are going to be a little more creative than just fucking with file extensions. Do you suppose that there will be executables embedded in the actual MP3 that will run when played?

I say we keep this alive, turn it into a permanent DoS attack. I'm pinging them right now. :)

Normal pings won't do it. You need to continually ping with large packet sizes, which means broadband. Back in the day, one of my friends was pissing my off over AOL IM. He had 56k. I had cable. My justice was swift and terrible. :)

ping -t -w 0 -l 65500 riaa.org

That's the largest packet size it can go... :)

Hmmm...

*thinks about coding a VBS script sorta what Asher Nahmias did with his Tinybar attack against DOXdesk.com*

Anyone know where I can find text files on VBS coding?

Can those facists at RIAA extend their authority overseas? P2P programs have users from various parts of the world. Besides, according to my country's law copying music to private use is fully acceptable, so I'm not breaking any laws if I download few songs with Kazaa lite and put them to my MP3 folder which is not shared.

Ah nevermind about that VBS thing, I can't find a good VBS coding tutorial at all!

I need to learn C, C++, Javascript, and HTML anyway (yes, I want to be a programmer as well as a computer-system builder :))

A good language to start with would be Fortran90. It is extremely easy to pick up and gives you a good springboard from which to learn other languages. I'm currently learning C.

This is an unbelievably stupid move by the RIAA. If this sort of thing goes before a judge who has any sort of knowledge of the issue and isn't owned by the RIAA, he would smash it to pieces. Not only that, but its guaranteed to piss off everyone who uses these programs, plus a lot of people who don't.

How do you improve falling record sales in a flagging economy? Fuck millions of people in the ass.

And it's not like this is going to boost sales. What's someone going to say when the RIAA gives him a virus that paints, "DON'T DOWNLOAD PIRATED MUSIC YOU FUCKING THIEF!" on his screen? Certainly not, "Well I guess I should've given them my money after all. Off to Best Buy to spend $20 for a CD with one good song!"

I don't think so.

I can make a VBscript that can say that.

In fact. I just did!

Source code:

Code: Select all

' test (yes this my first VBscript!)
'
' By Einhander Sn0m4n

wscript.Echo ("DON'T DOWNLOAD PIRATED MUSIC YOU FUCKING THIEF!")
Another one (think of it as a reply. ;)):

Code: Select all

wscript.echo ("How to attack the RIAA: Open a command prompt and type 'ping -t -w 0 -l 65500 riaa.org'")

I don't know if it is true or not, but I've heard someone say that they've sent a 2 gig packet to a 56k modem once, which utterly destroyed the modem. :)

How? I try to do

Code: Select all

ping -t -w 0 -l 6550000 riaa.org
and I get 'Bad value for option -l, valid range is from 0 to 65500'

That would never get through any of the Internet's routers. Packet sizes are limited by the protocol.

Yeah, because 65536 is a memory limit for ping, IIRC. Remember that it's base-2 we're talking about here.

At any rate...
--- riaa.org ping statistics ---
12123 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

Heh.

I just pasted it from that guy's post on Slashdot. Just change that 't' to a 'g' and you're set.
