The US Army has been working on a non-lethal microwave weapon of some sort that makes it extremely unpleasant for someone to be in it's line of sight when it's activated- that's all I know.

They also may be scrapping the whole project at least in its current form , because there's a risk of eye damage if you stared at it while active. It hasn't been deployed for sure. And its both is incapable of killing nor suitable for use on the battlefield. It’s a short range anti riot weapon.
