Just to note the "Digital Spectrum" is the range of transmission of digital TV and radio which was given away in the 1996 Telecommunication act, had it been auctioned off the way other spectrums had the value of the whole thing was in the double digit billions at least and the government just gave it away for practically nothing.

NPR does not work. It has one of the most liberal biases in the country, abandons any pretense of media balance, and serves as a mouthpiece for washed-out liberals who couldn't be make-uped into looking good enough for TV to harangue an audience of their fellow liberals about the evils of capitalism and imperialism. We could reduce the deficit--if by a marginal amount--by eliminating PBS and NPR, and, heck, considering what the deficit is going to be, anything will help, so why not? Chop 'em.

So now having an opposing opinion is reason for your funding to be cut, yea real freedom of the press there...

Ohh yes NPR is so unbelievably liberal, I see it as so unbelievable truthful. They dont sugar coat all the news to make the americans seem like the knights in shining armor, they try to portray the events as they are, and truth be told, if the truth is told the idiot and his cronies come out looking pretty damned bad.

You consider anything that disagrees with you untruthful and "blatantly liberally biased"

Ok foxnews blatantly conservatively totalitarianly baised and most certainly untruthful.

when no one else is airing a viewpoint held by a third to a forth of the population, why the hell shouldnt the public stations do it? Shouldnt they be trying to give people access to a plethora of views? when all other views allowed on the air by the media are of a blatantly pro-government bias, shouldnt a plethora of views been supported by having the public station provide an opposition view?

As a musician and as a future recording technician I will say this:

DOWN WITH CLEAR CHANNEL, ONE OF THE THREATS TO MUSIC AS WE KNOW IT!!!!

Thank you.
Music can name the un-nameable and communicate with the unknowable.

Fox is only moderate. CNN and print-outlets like the NYT have totally discredited themselves, CNN with their kow-towing to regimes like Iraq's (no, they shouldn't have put their people in danger, they should have pulled them out of the country and then said why), and the NYT with cases like Blair's--Fox hasn't, and their reporting, while not being as officious, does at least provide some real information.

For the most part I don't rely on them, however, either--I prefer sources like National Review and the New Republic.

Fox is only the most conservative network that ever existed

CNN sucked more Bush cock than I would expect.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

If you live in Britain and own a TV, you're probably going to watch the BBC. Not many people exclusively watch foreign stations.
Enlighten me; so, is the BBC a monopoly?

What exactly is indie music?

Independent music, artists without ties to corporations. Ever bit as self-important and full of self-entitlement as the richest musicians, I might add.

I suppose it is... you can watch whatever television you like, but you have to pay the BBC even if you don't watch their channels.

In short, there is no way to watch television without paying the BBC.

But is the BBC the only entity in Britain allowed to broadcast (aside from foreign companies)?

FWIW, I find NPR unbelievably biased, though I usually listen to them as I like classical music :D

I find FNC much the same way, only tilted to the other end.

no durran there are other channels that exist, but over the air, in most of the UK there are only 5 channels 2 of which are BBC and generally all the entertainment based programing is on them, meaning that if you own a tv for entertainment, you are paying them. Then again BBC last i knew doesnt have commercials on it (am i wrong? its been a few years since ive been in the UK) so it is an even trade. You can pay for cable and watch non-international non-bbc entertainment stuff, but then you are paying them anyway.

and who wouldnt watch bbc, it has come up with some of the best programing i know of historically. And does some of the best news reporting around.

Ohh yes the NYT had one dickwad fuck up and the rest of their reporting is considered crap by people who probably read freaking USA today and watch Foxnews, the least factual most bullshit catering to the moronic lowest common demominator in society, newspaper/tv channel around.
