And where the hell did I say I supported it? Oh wait, no where. In fact I'm opposed to it you asshat.
Yes, but you think it was a "legitimate issue" for him to even bring it up, which is more than enough Bush cocksucking to make me ill. Sorry to interrupt your self-righteous declaration of victory.
The way I see it, ensuring that gays and lesbians get their equal rights is big issue. Sure Bush is touting the fundy agenda, one reason to make gay rights a major issue, if it's not no progress gets made or worse yet crap like that stands.
How does any of this change the fact that Bush raised this issue precisely in order to attack the Democrats on it, and that he is the master of social divisiveness? Oh wait a minute, it doesn't. You're just trying to weasel out of defending his bullshit.

If John Kerry and the rest of the DNC had their way they would have ducked the issue entirely and let Bush have his way in ram rodding through this crap.

There sure as hell wouldn't be any progress if no one said a damn thing about it.
Sorry, I just had to chime in on this one. Are you aware that this is an issue that is going to be decided in the COURTS? Aside from Bush's pie-in-the-sky Amendment fantasy, this issue has precicely NOTHING to do with politicians; it is a matter of civil rights that will be decided by the Judicial branch.

However, much like the Republicans do with abortion, Bush has decided to use it as a campaign issue to try to rally people against the Democrats even though their election will have nothing to do with the outcome of this issue. You don't see this as shamelessly dishonest?

This is true. Issues of civil rights have traditionally been decided in the court system, not in the legislature, because the courts are not being held accountable to the vagaries of public opinion for election (in Minnesota judges are elected, but they are not allowed to campaign, so voters typically make their choice pretty much sight-unseen unless the incumbent has done something particularly unsavory during his or her term), and thus can be trusted to make a ruling which is truly in the people's best interest, instead of in the desires of some constitutency.
