Why does it matter whether he has a clue or not. His statement is valid, if he were still alive his punishment should be swift and harsh.

Not really. The dead cop's widow has a newborn baby and their fledgling family's problems are only just beginning. A startlingly high percentage of widows never remarry; the psychological impact of widowhood is not at all like divorce.

I really hate how these people are deemed "sick" yet they know that killing etc. is wrong but still do it. He wouldn't have barricaded himself if he didn't know killing people is wrong. Sick my ass, just diffusion of responsibility.

Sick or not it doesn't even fucking matter. People that do illegal things get punished because it prevents further harm, not because it teaches them a lesson.
