Umm, no while it's unlikely for the US or anyone to take military action is not because of divisions being tied up in Iraq. We'd never use ground troops against the PRC, which can field about 40 regular divisions and another 1.5 million armed and trained reserve militia, even if not a single US platoon was overseas guarding an embassy. And in terms of air power, Iraq is absorbing no more then it was 2 years ago before the war or build up started while Afghanistan soaks up the equivalent of about one wing. We are using up a lot of vital transport plane sorties to support those areas, but the US government can if it needs to mobilize hundreds of cargo and passenger planes from US airlines. We've also got nothing else of importance keeping a CVBG busy. So an air campaign of a ratherl arge scale could be launched.

So if we did go to war with China, what would our strategy most likey be? Simply hammering them with repeated aerial bombardment until their cities lie in ruin and their army has dissipated?

In a war with China, our first worry would probably be North Korea-no way that powderkeg wouldn't go off.

Thats about all we can do, cripple the economy through bombing and blockade, and perhapes make some harrasing ground raids against military bases in the western part of the country.

There aren't enough bombs in the US arsenal to dissipate the PLA. However, there are plenty of PGMs to completely destroy the Chinese economy and military industry- not to mention enough AAMs to bring down it's entire for the most part mediocre air force, for a good, long time.

Also more than enough torpedoes and ASMs to send it's mediocre navy to the bottom. Hell, the USN could probably deal with their navy using SSNs alone...
