Georgia to female genital piercings?

As I said before, they likely rushed it through. Actually, I know they did because there was no debate. Now that I read it more carefully, yeah the genital piercing thing was a rider amendment, but given that the sponsor was unaware of the voluntary, consenting-adult variety of the procedure, I believe that he was likely either thinking of some compulsory procedure practiced along with other forms of mutilation, or someone put him up to it without explaining why.

Yeah, I'm aware of some of the more severe forms of this in other parts of the world.

I haven't been able to find anything about this FGM bill. The problem with these immigrants who do this sickening practice is that if they can't get a doctor in the state (or country, for that matter) to do it, they will send their daughters out of the country to get it done if they can't find someone who'll do it illegally.

So I wonder if there was anything in the bill to prosecute anyone who does FGM to their daughters outside the state. I would support that, but since the asshats in the legislature apparently didn't know anything about labia piercings it could make a very bad civil liberties situation, especially if a woman gets a piercing in another state and then moves here and doesn't know about the law.

I support banning FGM, the kind that the bill was probably meant to ban, and I don't want the whole thing overturned because some dumbass doesn't realize that adults might want to get a piercing.

Yep, I feel the same way about circumcision. But of course that's ok as long as you used a half-assed assumption about cleanliness to justify the forced/rape/mutilation act. Or some idiotic archaic religious notion.

The difference being that circumcised males have a 75% decrease in AIDS transmission rates. There was a large study done in Africa involving tribes that practiced circumcision and tribes that did not. I'll see if I can dig up some links on it.
