Do you realise how many kids each family would have to raise to support such a nation? I would imagine they would hemmorage their population to the US in record numbers. Pretty soon we'll have Shep complaining about all the illegal immigrants coming in from South Carolina.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Do they sincerely think that will happen, or are they unable to distinguish between someone who opposes gay marraige, and opposes gay marraige to the point where they're willing to go through the trouble of creating a whole new country? I'm sure if most South Carolinans want to live in the 19th century, they'll go on PBS's Frontier House.Gil Hamilton wrote:I think what they are counting on is that once their grand crusade gets started, the people of S. So 12 thousand people migrating to South Carolina will be enough to push the population over the edge and split from the union, huh?

Well, you can't deport citizens, so:
1. Say 'sure', we'll give you sovereigty. You just have to revoke your American citizenship.
2. One everyone does that, say "Oops, we lied. Suck my enormous penis.". Send in the troops, restore American rule.
3. Deport all who supported the unlawful insurrection, as they aren't Amreican citizens. Have fun in Iraq!
You cannot deport a citizen, no, but under the patriot act II you will be able to deport US citizens who, arbitrarily, are deemed "coercive of the government, OR terrorists." You first deprive them of citizenship and then deport.

Their website says as much. That's the thing about fanatics; they sincerely believe they are right and tend to be under the impression that everyone else deep down thinks they are right too.Asst. And what would they do with the South Carolina residents who support gay marriage and secularism? That's at least twelve people they would have to deport!

Actually, there's a considerable population of transplanted Yankees and urbanized native southerners who'd want nothing to do with a Christian theocracy (let alone a floundering third-world Christian theocracy that suffers a complete economic implosion once cut off from the rest of the United States).AdmiralKanos wrote:And what would they do with the South Carolina residents who support gay marriage and secularism? I live in a very secular country (Sweden) and while I'm member of the lutheran Church of Sweden, I do not attend church (like the majority) neither do I believe in God. If such a proposal had been launched here in Sweden that my part of the country would secede and form the basis of a theocratic state, I would have been furious (more than that, actually). Having said that, I think that every church should be allowed to decide for themselves who can be married or not, while they must face the realities of the day. We have the same issues in Sweden with gay marriages etc., but here the proposed legislation is that every church (including the pentecost church, Jehovah's Witnesses, mormons etc) must allow gay weddings in their churches. I'm having difficulties believing that changes in the U.S. Constitution or any other state legislation would ever dreaming of going that far, so I think the Christians in the U.S. are very fortunate in that sense.
I think that every person must decide for themselves what's right or not. I won't reveal my opinion in this matter.Mange the Swede wrote:I live in a very secular country (Sweden) and while I'm member of the lutheran Church of Sweden, I do not attend church (like the majority) neither do I believe in God. There are some clowns in Texas who call themselves The Republic of Texas. They claim that it was illegal for Texas to become a state, or that it never became a state so it is still its own nation.Tribun wrote:I can already see that this is sentenced to fail.
It somehow reminds me of these bunch of clowns here in Germany, who think, that the Federal Republic is nonexistant because it is illegal, and that the Republic of Weimar still exists. And of course they are the Republical government.....
They are basically one of those wacko militia type groups. I seem to recall them printing wanted posters of certain US officials and they may have even tried to have their own money.

In 1982 US Customs set up a Border Patrol blockade on the bridge north of Key West. This so incensed the mayor of Key West that he announced the succession of Key West from the Union to form the Conch Republic and simultaneously requested $1 billion in foreign aid.
From here. The Conch Republic was established by secession of the Florida Keys from the United States of America, on April 23rd, 1982 in response to a United States Border Patrol Blockade setup on highway U.S.1 at Florida City just to the north of the Florida Keys. This heinous act effectively isolated Keys Citizens from the U.S. mainland since the blockade was on our only land artery to and from the mainland. This roadblock portrayed Keys residents as non-U.S. citizens who had to prove their citizenship in order to drive onto the Florida mainland! Hardly an American thing to do!
We protested! A totally American thing to do! Key West Mayor Dennis Wardlow along with a few other 'key' Conchs, went to Federal court in Miami to seek an injunction to stop the federal blockade, but to no avail. Upon leaving the Federal Court House , on the court house steps , Mayor Wardlow announced to the world, by way of the assembled TV crews and reporters, that ; "Tomorrow at noon the Florida Keys will secede from the Union!"
At noon, on the day of secession, at Mallory Square in Key West Florida, Mayor Wardlow read the proclamation of secession and proclaimed aloud that the Conch Republic was an independent nation separate from the U.S. and then symbolically began the Conch Republic's Civil Rebellion by breaking a loaf of stale Cuban bread over the head of a man dressed in a U.S. Navy uniform. After one minute of rebellion, the now, Prime Minister Wardlow turned to the Admiral in charge of the Navy Base at Key West, and surrendered to the Union Forces, and demanded 1 Billion dollars in foreign aid and War Relief to rebuild our nation after the long Federal siege!
Thus began our Conch Republic journey which still continues today! We are both Conchs and we are Americans and we are proud to be both. By act of Congress we hold dual citizenship as Conchs and as Americans and will fight for the right to be both!
Contrary to recent reports, the name "Conch Republic" refers to "all"of the Florida Keys, or, that geographic apportionment of land that falls within the legally defined boundaries of Monroe County Florida, northward to "Skeeter's Last Chance Saloon" in Florida City , Dade County Florida, with Key West as the Nation's Capitol and all territories north of Key West being referred to as "The Northern Territories". Be it known that these boundaries were established by the U.S. Government when they set up "THE" Border Patrol blockade in front of "Skeeter's Last Chance Saloon", in April of 1982, thereby establishing a new United States border!
To enforce the validity of our secession, the Monroe County Commission, in 1994, by unanimous vote, did pass a County Resolution recognizing Mayor Wardlow's actions, on the 23rd of April in 1982, as by, of and for the people of the Florida Keys. Read the full story!
We celebrate our Independence every year with a week long celebration. Click Here for the current schedule of events.
In the quest for recognition, the Honorable Peter Anderson, Secretary General of the Conch Republic has created "Official Conch Republic Passports" . The Secretary General has extensively traveled our surrounding Caribbean Nations with nothing more than his Diplomatic Passport and has been well received by many as a Diplomat and as a Government Official of the Conch Republic and even had his passport endorsed by nearly all! Officially, our passports, Diplomats and Citizens, have been well received by 13 Caribbean Nations as well as Germany, Sweden, Havana, Mexico, France, Spain, Ireland, and Russia.

When I live in Del Rio, I, like everybody else, had to go through a border patrol checkpoint to get into the rest of Texas. You didn't see us succeeding.Currald wrote:In 1982 US Customs set up a Border Patrol blockade on the bridge north of Key West. If I recall correctly Key West surrendered immediately to federal forces and then demanded the $1 billion as relief aid following the federal siege. This so incensed the mayor of Key West that he announced the succession of Key West from the Union to form the Conch Republic and simultaneously requested $1 billion in foreign aid.
