Besides Africa?Pablo Sanchez wrote:As far as I can tell, the Quebecois basically have all of the negative aspects of the French, minus the humbling historical experiences of the world wars, plus a lot of things that are bad about Americans. Would I be wrong in generalizing them as the worst product of the era of colonialism?

Via money Europe could become political in five years" "... the current communities should be completed by a Finance Common Market which would lead us to European economic unity. Only then would ... the mutual commitments make it fairly easy to produce the political union which is the goal"

Not necessarily, since all of the Atlantic provinces, except for PEI, have populations greater than the lowest US state (Wyoming).CaptainChewbacca wrote:A minimum of three, but after the first two you get one for every 650,000 people you have. Maritimes would probably be "bundled" for their low population and to minimize their influence.
The rest are all "too small" by the Wyoming standard, but wow! Puerto Rico has 3.9 million!? Why weren't they a state a long time ago?And yes, it would be a good map. Maybe once we get past "magic 50" we'll finally let Puerto Rico, Guam, and American Samoa in.
Also, do Puerto Rico and other American territories have a say in electing the President, Congressmen, etc. somehow? I recall seeing them listed in the primaries...

And the reason Puerto Rico isn't a state is because they have never voted to become one.Wikipedia wrote:Politics
Main article: Politics of Puerto Rico
The government is composed of 3 branches: the Executive branch headed by the Governor, the Legislative branch consisting of a bicameral Legislative Assembly (a Senate and a House of Representatives) and the Judicial branch. The legal system is based on the Spanish civil code.
The Constitution of Puerto Rico was approved through refendum in 1952, and ratified by the U.S. Congress, which maintains ultimate sovereignty over Puerto Rico. Under this constitution, Puerto Rico is a territorial commonwealth of the United States and is permitted a high degree of autonomy. Although Puerto Rico does not have representation in the U.S. Electoral College or U.S. Congress, it is permitted a non-voting Resident Commissioner in the U.S. Congress. Although citizens of Puerto Rico are also U.S. citizens, they do not pay federal income tax on income from island sources. The Jones Act of 1917, which imposed citizenship on the island, also allowed the U.S. armed forces to draft many Puerto Rican men into the military service, although they are not allowed to vote in the U.S. Presidential elections.
