so you are telling me that you could tell if a lone bear is a cub or a adult by just looking at it from a few hundred yards away? I don't think so. Besides I never said you have to be ignorant of what bears look like, many experienced hunter often get excited in the moment they see the animal and make mistakes calculating the age and/or size of the animal. Not to mention like I said before it was the first bear taken that day (so they may have not know what was all out there) and it was the first bear hunt in 51 years people were probably shooting every bear they saw until the hunt was stopped. As for him mounting it, there is nothing wrong with it. Will it look like a huge grizzly would? no, but to him it is special and that is a large part of the reason you get your "trophy" mounted.Darth Wong wrote: You're seriously arguing that this guy couldn't tell the difference between an adult bear and a cub?
He didn't sound like a guy who made a mistake; he said it was actually more convenient to drag a small carcass around than big one, and bragged that he planned to mount the little head on his wall. That doesn't sound like a guy who made an honest mistake, and anyone who would go on a bear hunt without even knowing anything about bears is too fucking stupid to be allowed to own a rifle.
For all we know there were several cubs taken on the hunt and all of them mounted, but his happen to be the smallest. much like a young hunter usually gets there little 6 or 8 point mounted even though a more experienced hunter would not bother. It is special to that young hunter.
I am just a bit annoyed by the people here acting as if this guy should be stripped of his reproductive rights because he is some sort of dumbass.
Let me explain it like this..... ever watch any of those hunting shows? watch a bit and find one with an inexperienced hunter on their first hunt. They will generally take a small animal or a cull of some sort. They get just as excited, if not more excited than an experinced hunter that just took their largest animal they have ever harvested. He was caught up in the moment and possibly saying things that later upon reflection he did not follow through with.
