Haha, you're like a certain computing student I know who has an abject fear of man and machine coming together despite the total inevitability of it. If robots do come about, they likely won't be all that intelligent for a while.
What I would be looking out for is the digitisation of our "ghosts" and the blurring of biological and technological to the point that both compliment one another on an everyday scale (and I don't mean hip joints and PCs like today, I mean the whole shebang).
Put it this way, the philosophers will have a field day.

I assume they're not too different to those bomb-disposal bots made by that UK company (you know, the type that also had a rifle onboard which was used to stop a failed suicide bomber in Israel from blowing himself up... again).

So it is. Didn't notice that before. It does seem to be the same type of unit. They're sturdy and mobile enough to do the job, so I'd not mind them as help. Reminds me of the drones in C&C: Generals.
