What exactly is stable about hundreds of civilians and soldiers getting blown up per month; ethnic tensions throughout the country, including rapidly esclating problems with the Kurds?
Well, the number of soldiers being killed has declined sharply recently. Also, the Sunni/Shiite violence that the recent bombings seem to have been intended to create has been kept in check. Also, I wasn't able to find anything on problems with the Kurds. Given that the new council virtually guarantees that there will be a Kurd in the Presidency Council (and with that a veto over the apointment of the PM) they don't have to worry about repression, unlike their cousins in Syria, where there really is an escalating problem.
but certainly considerably more stable than the predictions of certain individuals who were certain that a war in Iraq would set off the Day of the Burning.
Can you quote the predictions of one of these 'certain individuals'?
I remember it being predicted in the media that this war wouldn't be a walkover like Gulf War I, that after Saddam fell the Shiites would start killing Sunnis, that Saddam would gas the Kurds again to remove a threat at his rear, that there would be a huge humanitarian crisis, etc.

February was a very quiet month, military casualties wise, but it seems like an abberation. March is already shaping up to be worse, if current attack trends continue.

There's been sectarian violence up in the Kurdish region.

But the Shi'ites don't like the concept. Also, it seems the Kurds think the constitution somehow guarantees them an independent state.

Just read in Publico, Portuguese newspapers and government officials have received numerous terrorists threats in the last few days, including a letter saying the moment approaches and that some operationals of the spanish attacks are already in Portugal.

How has Portugal been dealing with the WOT? Did they support the US?

Technically the 'WOT' begins and should realy end in Afganistan, but that would be difficult for Bush to spin France and Germany as 'Old Europe' when they are an intrical support pillar in Afganistan, but hey.
