As for oversized fundie families, I wonder how they can manage to cram so many kids into one dwelling unit. Aren't there laws and zoning regulations which limit the amount of people that can leave in a residence, family or not?

In some areas yes, there are such laws. In other places, no. Obviously, "quiverfull" families will tend to gravitate towards those areas favorable to their lifestyles.
