This is why I wonder if this is a political, rather than budgetary position. Obama could now come in and say, "Well we were going to cut these programs and guarantee that you look powerless, but I'm going to help you out. I just need a few favors..."Rogue 9 wrote:The rise in Lockheed stock is due to the increased ordering of the F-35, as already mentioned in this thread. Pay attention.
As for the contractors, that's tens of thousands of jobs spread all across the country that you're looking at eliminating if the F-22 is cut for good. If we're cutting somewhere, it ought to be the damn stimulus we're cutting; building shit, whether it be roads or military equipment, is the kind of government spending that creates jobs and kickstarts the economy; not handing out trillions in free money so we can get the credit market into the same unhealthy state it was in that triggered this mess in the first place.

I never claimed it was due to anything else, and the article I mentioned cited stocks besides Lockheed.Rogue 9 wrote:The rise in Lockheed stock is due to the increased ordering of the F-35, as already mentioned in this thread. Pay attention.
Is this in response to me? Because I never said that the F-22 should be cut for good. In fact, I didn't say anything at all, I just posted an article relevant to the subject of the thread.Rogue 9 wrote:As for the contractors, that's tens of thousands of jobs spread all across the country that you're looking at eliminating if the F-22 is cut for good. Re: Major overhaul in Pentagon spending
It's in response to the subject in general, not you, though it was brought on by your opening line of "Oh, won't someone PLEASE think of the contractors?!?!" I should have specified; my apologies.
As for the Lockheed Martin stock price going up, I had presumed that, since you pointed it out, you thought it was a discrepancy, when it really isn't. It wasn't clear to me that you understood the reason for it.

What's the deal with the Littoral Combat Ship? I hear it's a piece of shit, but not why?
Re: Major overhaul in Pentagon spending
Minimal armament and sensor capability, unreasonably high speed, excessively high cost for what we get. There are plenty of alternatives around that are much more capable if the USN requires a frigate.Terralthra wrote:What's the deal with the Littoral Combat Ship? Re: Major overhaul in Pentagon spending
Shep's complaints about contractor-vs-DoD-personnel can be broken down into two parts.
One has already been quite accurately handled by Lonestar.
The other is based on the argument that everything that happened under MacNamera's watch was universally bad, and that any future action even superficially resembling anything that MacNamera did will also be bad, regardless of circumstances. I loathe MacNamera on a personal and professional level, but I choose not to dignify that argument with further rebuttal.

It's been pointed out on HPCA that many "tail" positions in the military of real importance have also been cut. Consider that the USN now lacks the institutional knowledge on how to design and build ships, deferring that to the contractors now. Someone has to be doing sanity checking on designs (lest we get DD(X), LCS, &c) and keeping guys in-house and with closer experience to actual operations surely would be good.erik_t wrote:The other is based on the argument that everything that happened under MacNamera's watch was universally bad, and that any future action even superficially resembling anything that MacNamera did will also be bad, regardless of circumstances. That was my bad. I meant to just post the article because it contained more information on the subject. At the time I was typing it I was thinking of "The Simpsons," thus my snarky one-liner.Rogue 9 wrote:It's in response to the subject in general, not you, though it was brought on by your opening line of "Oh, won't someone PLEASE think of the contractors?!?!" Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

You were stupid enough to believe it credibly enough to repost it here.
Does nobody fucking understand the inverse square law on this message board?

The inverse-square law is basic enough to understand.
And, I think it's credulously, not credibly.
