Bullshit. You want us to disregard the violation of our laws by foreign diplomats in an effort to keep foreign populaces happy with us.It's not a matter of appeasement, it's a matter of determining that the discouragement of certain crimes might not prove worth our long-term while.
You don't even read entire posts, do you? All you see is me not agreeing with you ergo I must be advocating the fines, when I've made several posts already to the effect of "perhaps an alternate solution would be to expel their diplomats and prevent them from attending the UN General Assembly, an act which would not affect the general populace of the nation in question but which would affect the government of the nation in question because they will no longer have a presence at the UN General Assembly."The countries upon whom we will levy the fines aren't even remotely democratic in the first place; you have no leg to stand on when you insist the validity of an initiative which would punish those not even able to change the situation had they so desired.
Or maybe just a "We won't welcome your diplomats until they clean up their act." would suffice.

No. To capitalize on your analogy, however ... a single five-year-old would not take a piss in the Amazon River because in some areas, doing so could pose a health risk. It isn't worth the trouble. The same is true of this particular situation. The U.S. not going ahead with this for fear of critizism is akin to a single five year not taking a piss in the Amazon river for fear causing a flood.
I agree that we should press this in some other fashion, although I'm not certain whether asking their diplomats to leave would do more than just inagurate a terrific legal battle.Or maybe just a "We won't welcome your diplomats until they clean up their act." would suffice.
Interestingly enough, this is yet further proof that people come to threads in which I post merely to target me. You've been left alone despite also declining support for the, "Let's cut aid" route.
