NYTs forcast has been steadily ticking towards trump all night, and is currently at 54% Trump.

I hesitated to post that link because watching it will make TRRs head explode.
Edit: it went up to 59% while I was writing this post.

So is it pretty much over for Clinton? No chance of coming back?

I wouldn't say that, but it looks pretty bad.Mlenk wrote:So is it pretty much over for Clinton? No chance of coming back?
If Trump wins all the states where he's currently leading, the orange fuck will get an Electoral College blowout.
And then the question is, where do we go from their? What can we possibly do to contain the damage?
"I know its easy to be defeatist here because nothing has seemingly reigned Trump in so far. But I will say this: every asshole succeeds until finally, they don't. Again, 18 months before he resigned, Nixon had a sky-high approval rating of 67%. Harvey Weinstein was winning Oscars until one day, he definitely wasn't."-John Oliver

Fun fact, they're still predicting a 2% margin of victory in the popular vote for Clinton.
Re: The 2016 US Election (Part IV)
They are being premature. The populations centers of Wisconsin and Michigan have yet to weigh in yet they have them solidly Trump in their calculations. PA is anyone's guess at this point.

Voted before work today. No line, was in and out in 5 minutes. Voted straight Democrat where I could, there were a ton of local offices where only Republicans were running with no write-in option, though I was able to have the satisfaction of writing in "Burt Macklin, FBI" for Kinzinger's seat. I also voted 'No' on the proposed Amendment 1, which would have made Illinois's transportation funds (road taxes, gas taxes, tolls, etc.) available only for transportation projects. Not only is that a terrible idea if the Department of Education or something has a budget shortfall, or if we have another tornado/massive flood/earthquake and need to divert funds for disaster relief, we damn sure don't need to make a constitutional amendment out of it.

I'm wondering if the country used up all its lucky points getting a Cubs World Series win this year and we're about to lose big with this election.

I'm glad I didn't make my customary "Vote Cthulhu! Why vote for the lesser evil?" post on Facebook ... mostly because I wasn't actually expecting Cthulhu to win. And yet, here we seem to be.

North Carolina just went Trump...I'm growing more and more pessimistic. Barring some kind of miracle at this point, I just don't see a victory for Clinton.
Re: The 2016 US Election (Part IV)
MI is getting real close. What the hell is up with WA? I figured Trump would get blown out there but he is up 1 point with 26% of the state reporting.

No matter the outcome, I must say that the closeness of this election has greatly impacted my faith in American democracy, and even democracy as an ideal.
I just hope that the outcome isn't the objectively worse one.

Re: The 2016 US Election (Part IV)
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. Democracy has always been a shitty system, especially when a population isn't required by law to do their part. People as a whole don't want to be free, they want to be ruled. They want everything to be a binary choice and to be handed to them in the simplest way possible. Il Douche does that, since he's a simpleminded as the people voting for him.Imperial528 wrote:No matter the outcome, I must say that the closeness of this election has greatly impacted my faith in American democracy, and even democracy as an ideal.

Looking at the electoral map, it's infuriating. The course of a nation is being set by hordes of barely-educated cornfucks that think their simplistic view of the world is somehow valid.

By my calculations, Clinton has to win NV, MN, MI, WI, and PA to clinch the presidency at this point. That will be difficult considering two of those states, possibly 3 are leaning red as I type this.

I've been making the same calculations. They can still all flip back to blue, I think, but yeah, she has to have all of them or that's the ballgame.Darth Lucifer wrote:By my calculations, Clinton has to win NV, MN, MI, WI, and PA to clinch the presidency at this point. So. How much damage can Il Douche and the nazi-lite party do in four years?
