Does President Obama deserve to be re-elected?

Re: Does President Obama deserve to be re-elected?
As a registered Democrat...no, I do not want to see him as the party candidate for 2012. If things had gone differently, I might be more inclined. He has failed to live up to my expectations, he has backpedaled on so many promises, and failed to act decisively against the GOP.
Re: Does President Obama deserve to be re-elected?
I'm not registered Democrat, but I clicked it anyway for the same reason that I usually vote Democrat: there's not much of a second option in the US of A.
And no, Obama doesn't in the slightest deserve a second term, unless he magically becomes a good president over the next two years.
That said, he's going to be the Democratic party nominee in 2012, because he's the incumbent - and the only way he wouldn't be is if he choked to death on a pretzel or something, in which case Biden would be on the ticket in stead.
Since the Republican party candidate will be worse, that means that I'll be gritting my teeth and voting for him anyway, unless by some miracle there's a strong third-party candidate with a chance at winning.

Same here (for the record, I will never, ever vote for the GOP. I made be middle of the road, but I'm very anti-Republican).Feil wrote:Since the Republican party candidate will be worse, that means that I'll be gritting my teeth and voting for him anyway, unless by some miracle there's a strong third-party candidate with a chance at winning.

Re: Does President Obama deserve to be re-elected?
US citizen and independent, though I did briefly register as a Democrat while living in PA to vote for Obama over the Hilldabeast during the primaries.
And no fucking way would I vote for his ass again. I knew he was no liberal, but I at least expected someone comparable to Bill Clinton who would undo some of Bush's crap (like Gitmo) and at least fight for some of the things he put forth in his campaign. Instead he's showing Carter levels of incompetence, while arrogantly giving a hearty fuck you to all the people who helped put him in the Oval Office in the first place, that it's now at the point that I despise him as much as I despise Bush. I'll either vote something like the Green party or not vote at all out of protest come 2012; that is unless the Dems successfully run someone else in the primary, in which case pigs will probably be a regular sight in the skies.

Mr. Harley: Your impatience is quite understandable.
Klaatu: I'm impatient with stupidity. My people have learned to live without it.
Mr. Harley: I'm afraid my people haven't. I'm very sorry... I wish it were otherwise.

Re: Does President Obama deserve to be re-elected?
The question explicitly posed in OP is simple to answer: no, Obama has (as others have noted in finer point by point detail) either failed to deliver on his promises or delivered faint shadows of what we expected in spite of majorities in both Houses. Republican obstructionism is only half the story; the other half is the POTUS' fetishistic, irrational craving for bipartisanship. I'll vote against him in the primaries if there's an opportunity.
The question of voting for his re-election is more complex.
-If he SOMEHOW manages to do a 90° turn (from Net-0 to Genuine Progressive) I'll be forgive him these squandered years.
-If Colorado is a toss-up state I'll toss him my vote.
-If Colorado is strongly projected to go red I'll vote for the leading liberal 3rd party.
-...and if by some miracle the Republican nominee has acceptable positions on gays, the environment, energy, economy and taxes, health care, science, net neutrality, foreign policy, and abortion I'll vote (R) for major office for the first time in my life. And invest in lottery tickets.

This upswing of lambasting Obama for being a useless fucking wimp is really the best outcome. It really looks like everyone who cares about progressive and common sense policies has had it up to here with his wimpy-ass, always-give-in-to-the-GOP, fuck-the-people-who-voted-for-me strategy.

I'm from the UK, and I can't help but feel disappointed by Obama. If I'd lived in America, I'd have voted for him, and I hoped like hell that he would undo the injustices of the Bush Era - Guantanamo, Pandering to the rich, etc. in the hopes that my own nations slavering pack of sycophantic politicians might follow suit.
I keep saying Obama's failure was treating the Republicans like decent honest folk who want the best for America instead of bunch of moustache-twirling black-cloak-wearing monsters out to help only themselves and their immensely rich backers whilst cynically preying on the ignorance of their poor redneck ignorant supporters.
I really thought the Healthcare thing would be the turning point, where he could flex his political muscles and use the Democrat majority to push through a genuinely progressive bill, especially as I followed the discussions on this forum about the relative merits of nationalised healthcare.
I was, of course, wrong, and that failure I feel has been typical of his government. Based upon it's own merits, Obama's administration does not deserve a second term. I would vote for him again if I was an American - the Republics worry me more than he disappoints me.

You know, the GOP is reminding me more and more of the Goa'uld from Stargate, i.e. posturing egomaniacs driven by an insatiable lust for power.Sinewmire wrote:I keep saying Obama's failure was treating the Republicans like decent honest folk who want the best for America instead of bunch of moustache-twirling black-cloak-wearing monsters out to help only themselves and their immensely rich backers whilst cynically preying on the ignorance of their poor redneck ignorant supporters.
But I agree. The bipartisan approach simply doesn't work with the present GOP and Obama's attempts to preach unity after the division of the Bush years backfired.
