Yeah fine so the UN ruled that they're illegal...but without a guidance system. It's based on the fact the missiles were not tested under real life conditions that I say it's debatable whether Iraq should have had them.Knife wrote:But the UN inspectors (they are the authority here, aren't they?) decided that, in accordence with the information they had about it, it was illegal for him to have them. Its not really that dabateable. The people who are suppost to make those calls, made those calls and Iraq came up short.Argh! The missiles maximum range may have been under the proscribed limit with a guidance system! So it's debatable whether he was right to have them.
We've got the US passing on forged documents and shithouse intelligence to the UN...the way I see it, the UN didn't want this missile to be used any further by the US to be twisted and spun into more bullshit propaganda.

Fox News right now is cool, with video of an artillery duel goingPerinquus wrote: They are not idiots. on, and commentary from a guy in the frontlines.
Meanwhile, CNN has some Arab diplomat yammering on and typical shot
of downtown baghdad...
The best quote I've seen about the news coverage of this war:
See what happens when you cooperate with the White House instead of "proclaiming" the President "stole" the election?
The fair and balanced network gets to put on live play by play and you get to have that ditzie blonde on the screen talking about things she has no clue about.

It really is touching to see the wingnuts defending Faux by dismissing all criticism as the work of extremist leftists after Faux has just made such a monumental screwup.

Why the hell wouldn't you test a missile with it's guidance system? If you don't, it's not really a good test, is it? Might as well just static test the engine then.BoredShirtless wrote:Yeah fine so the UN ruled that they're illegal...but without a guidance system. And the warhead. Otherwise theres really no point to the test at all.phongn wrote:AFAIK, missiles are usually tested with ballast the simulate the weight of the guidance packages.

The point went right over your head, didn't it?Perinquus wrote:I judge you by the statements you have made here on this board.
By US standards I'm a leftist. By the rest of the world's standards I'm not. Calling me a leftist is rather bizzare as I'm not an American and am not part of your truncated political spectrum.
Do tell us all again about how great Faux news is so perfect and everyone who thinks otherwise is a raving commie.

Like your any better. You use your views of Canadian politics to label US institutions and media all the time. From what I gather, lefties in the US are what you would call conservitives in Canada. No wonder you think so ill of Fox news, it is inconcievable for you to have anything more concervitive than what Americans call the left. Get over your self, we (America) don't have individual parties for lefties, centrist lefties, slightly right lefties, slightly left lefties, kind of commie lefties, and so on.Enlightenment wrote:The point went right over your head, didn't it?Perinquus wrote:I judge you by the statements you have made here on this board.

I'm fairly certain the PAC-3 actually did hit it, considering that the PAC-3 is a hit to kill missile not a missile with and actual warhead...weemadando wrote:Is it the same "intercepted" as in 1991 where it merely meant that the paths of the missiles crossed, not that they actually hit?Admiral Valdemar wrote:The missiles were intercepted by Patriots. Unlike in Gulf War II there haven't yet been any cases of 'fragments' of Scuds hitting the ground and causing damage. We'll won't know until a full accounting is done after the war is over but it certainly looks like PAC3 works as advertised.weemadando wrote:Is it the same "intercepted" as in 1991 where it merely meant that the paths of the missiles crossed, not that they actually hit?

as to the whole idea that the press uplinks might be giving away US force positions -- I seriously doubt it. Iraq's military (even if at 100%) stands no realistic chance against any 1st world military force... even canada's.
people... we need to realize that the nation we are invading is little more than a 3rd world puppet state. while they may have a good amount of stuff for the operation of a military, if it is any more advanced electronically than a vacuum-tube radio -- or beyond typical steelmaking as far as materials -- they really dont have a clue (and neither do any other nations in the area save for turkey & israel).
for example, while Iraq had an air force of reasonable size and technological sophistication, it has never really been used against a competent adversary (Iran doesnt count, as they arent competent either... at one time they had F-14's, but once we stopped giving them parts, well... they started to cannibalize) -- we destroyed most of it on the ground during GW1, and most of what did get airborne merely fled to neighboring countries. Hell, they cant even build their own spare parts or ordnance for the more advanced aircraft & armor -- only one reason (of many) why their military is only 30% combat ready!
On the Bio/Chem weapon front... they might be able to develop and deploy such ordnance, but since most of that stuff dates (tech-wise) to WW1, I am not impressed. Anything that harkens to advanced electronics & space technology is utter magic to most of them, and they dont have enough highly trained sci/eng personnel to properly demystify it!
