This morning in a speech in Dallas, a reporter asked Vice President Cheney about his views on Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Cheney responded that the people of Peru “deserve better” leadership:

MODERATOR: Our attention is focused on Iraq, Iran and the wider Middle East. However, much of the world is watching closely Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. How concerned are you about his influence?

CHENEY: We have — I’m trying to think how to state this diplomatically.

(LAUGHTER)

Diplomacy is hard sometimes.

(LAUGHTER)

We have refrained from making public pronouncements about Mr. Chavez — I think, for good and legitimate reasons. He’s a — obviously, an individual with his own agenda. And he spends a great deal of his time worrying about us and criticizing the United States.

My own personal view is that he does not represent the future of Latin America. And the people of Peru (sic), I think, deserve better in their leadership. But that’s obviously a matter they’ve got to resolve for themselves.

For the record, Peru’s current president is Alan García. (At least Cheney didn’t call Africa a “nation.”)

Peru is to Venezuela what Iraq is to Afghanistan.

Chavez's imperialism must be put down at all costs. First Peru, next it'll be Ecuador then the world! We shall send a chapter of our finest marines. Angels of death descending upon the Southern Americas, bringing them back into the fold of mankind. Glory to our God Emperor Bush!

I've read "Soldier of Fortune" articles on Venezuela, which criticized Chavez for buying weapons from Russia, and blatantly accused him of plotting to attack some islands the Dutch have off of South America-- basically, a group of warmongering nuts are accusing Chavez of warmongering.

Someone get the American right-wingers some sedatives.

Hmm... It looks like spending seven years being the minder of a talking chimp has started to soften the brain of Count Dick. Had to happen. You can't be exposed to that much stupid on a daily basis for that long a time without it eventually taking a toll.

Not all warmongers are stupid. The best way to warmonger is to say "He started it!" Take, for example, the USS Maine, or the incidents on the Polish border in 1939. Some, of course, are more convincing than others.

Actually, it was just an example of a misstatement. Because it takes a particularly vile sort of person to condemn those for doing what they, theself does, I can only assume that your post was meant as a joke and not a jab.
